Yesterday reached 70! Blazing sun and bright blue cloudless sky. Absolutely ridiculous, things busting out into leaf overnight a good three weeks early. Flowers appearing by magic!
Curiously the white wild plum is a child of the pink wild plum, all its children are white flowering. I planted some plumstones a million years ago and they are dotted around the place. The foliage of the children ranges from red to green, good thing humanity doesn’t do the same thing eh? Think of the paternity suits!
I just love these primroses, so delicate and unassuming, so much less in your face than the garish jobs normally sold.
Look what else appeared for Easter!
The miniature concentration camp is to keep deer off the new shoots of red stemmed dogwood, coppiced down for new bright red growth. Poor old plants can’t keep up with being ‘pruned’ by all of us.
Yet one more thing appeared for the weekend.
A Simnel cake, Spousal unit was introduced to the vagaries of thirteenth Century cooking and decided he wouldn’t have minded being around back then. I did point out that he would have had to have gone on the Crusades to bring back the ingredients but the thought of murdering a few ragheads for their currants, raisins and almonds seemed a perfectly reasonable excuse for a happy Easter. Mmmmm!
All in all, one of the most utterly boring Easters ever. Being in full purdah still, no guests, no going out to anyone else, so I potted until there is nothing left to pot! Even potting loses its appeal after the 56th aubergine! (Well sort of!)
The worse thing of the lot, for some dreadful reason with the mixture of drugs I am taking for my lungs I cannot drink WINE! For the last three days a mere initial glass of preprandial sustenance has caused a hideous rash all over my face, gut pain and extreme reflux.
Seriously not bloody funny. Needless to say I stopped taking the drugs!
I shall now take the wine cure! So, not one of the more amusing Bank Holidays.

It is bound to happen here sooner or later, Spring that is, but we had a light dusting of snow today,
Sensible to stop taking the drugs, I reckon, but sorry you haven’t had the best of Bank Holidays.
I have had the family here for a couple of days, and frankly I had forgotten how tiring it is to have small children around. I’m now recovering. I think, with hindsight, I would have decided to have my children earlier.
It appears that unless you have small children around you all the time and are suitably inured to them, everyone complains of the same thing! It is the spasmodic nature of their hellish appearances!!!
I rather think we got it right moving up here to the NW, no relatives within 2000 miles but no grandchildren either as yet. Spousal unit can cross that bridge when it comes to it, I shall either be in the UK or he can go to Dallas!
Stop it, Christina! It’s cruelty to mention anything above 0C.
Seriously weird Janus, it is all a good three weeks early, it appears the jet stream has slipped sideways, literally and we all have someone else’s weather.
Today the sun came out and we had 6C. Hare and water rat went foraging. No polar bear yet.
Just got to this. Mrs. O. please shut up about your bloody weather. It did struggle up to 50 today but the gale from the North meant it felt like 35. Nothing tilled, nothing planted and hence nothing growing. You will be harvesting before we get started.
Nice Simnel Cake, anything with that much marzipan must be good.
LW it appears to me that the whole jet stream has lurched to the right. Everyone seems to have weather from the wrong weather from the left and up a bit!
