Has anyone else been receiving odd messages via the DT, presumably from Facebook? I was told the other day that three people had “unfriended” me, which seems unlikely since I wouldn’t touch Facebook with a bargepole, however heavily disinfected. Brother-in-law did join, for reasons best known to himself, and put everyone else’s name down. Today, however, I am informed that two people want to “rebound” with me. Are there some very bouncy Tiggers out there? Who would want to deal with such a bunch of illiterates? Is it American? (Sorry, LW, nothing personal.)

Despite repeated requests i don’t do Twatter, MyFace, Spacebook or any other such fripperies. All i want is a mobile that will deliver and receive phone calls and texts, no more, no less and a pooter that spools up reliably every morning to deliver the news, weather forecasts, emails and The Chariot. End of. I don’t do fast food, slow food or fad food either and all suchlike metropolitan trends leave me cold, nor do I want a holiday in wherever is ‘fashionable’ this season . So there!

No Facebook or twitter for me, either, so I’m missing out on all the rebounding and unfriending. Alas or Alas not, whatever the case may be.
We joined Facebook in the ‘early days’. But we got so fed up with the fact that every time we logged on the privacy settings had altered we gave up.
I had an invitation to ‘rebound’ with someone a couple of days ago – and ignored it!
Sheona, Backside and I shy away from such self-seeking frivolities! Anyone who believes he/she has 200 ‘friends’ is seriously deluded and in need of re-education. In my book, news of family and real friends comes with a personal greeting and no audience participation.
I saw a cartoon recently of a very sparsely attended funeral service in a large church. One mourner is saying to the other, “He’s supposed to have had 500 friends. You’d have thought more of them would have turned up.”

Today I’m using Google Chrome and can read the DT without a block even though we are in France. And the adverts at the top of the page are all in German. Weird!
I’m glad we’re not the only non-twittering, non-facebooking people around.
Mornin’ Sheona. I understand the DT allows you a certain number of free views per month after which you are blocked (unless you wipe all the cookies, apparently). Alternatively, you could load Expat Shield which gives you a proxy UK based IP address. It is, however, quite intrusive with lots of adverts and suchlike.

Sheona, I sometimes use the net via Tor http://www.torproject.org. It allows me access the DT without blocks, but it is a bit cumbersome.
I do not FB or Tweet. My view is that FB, particularly, works on the theory that most people are foolish enough to actually believe that others are interested in their lives, when in reality all they are interested in is telling people about their own lives. For the most part the only time anybody is interested in hearing about other people is if there is some benefit to themselves. Money, sex, influence, etc. Otherwise, yaaaawwn!
Hello Sheona: Not this American. No Facebook, no Twitter, nor Linkedin nor Myspace. All of my five friends are in my address book or just down the road.
About fifty percent of Facebookers(?) are now ex-US the demographics are worth a look, less than 3% are over 65 years of age and not a growing segment, wonder why?

I joined years ago in an effort to close down the boy’s page after his death, they absolutely refused to do so and it ended up me having to use lawyers etc threatening to sue them before the problem was resolved.
I never bothered to use the account, looked criminally boring to me!
As I do not own an ‘instrument of the devil’ aka a mobile phone of any dimension I do not twitter.
I thought twittering was for birds and seemingly twats. i mean seriously why would anyone want to belong to anything to which Sally Bercow contributed?
I note I was unfriended last week or so, I merely delivered the deathray of the delete button to the email!
I have to admit to being too indolent to actually bother to find out how to stop them coming, there is so much spam from nurseries etc they just get zapped a couple of times a week during the general cull.
I am very hard put to understand why people bother with all these media sites. It is bad enough having to put up with morons, cretins and mental dwarves in real life without actually voluntarily interacting with them, I’m sure it must be catching!! Just look what happened to the DT!
