12th Night – Joint Pome and Piccie Comp January 2013

On her last visit to the UK the wife of the then outgoing French president was interviewed on the Beeb.  “Tell us Madame de Gaulle, what do you most look forward to in retirement?”  “When my ‘usband he leave ze Elysée all I want is a penis.”  Her interpreter leaned forward, “I think Madame meant to say, ‘All I want is happiness.”

Fumada was not filled with happiness when she saw her Christmas present and dealt with it accordingly.

I have  decided to set a single title for both the pome and piccie comps, this being ‘Happiness‘ in anticipation of a better 2013.   Interpret this as you wish.  Please post any entries for either competition on this thread before 09:00 Zulu, Sunday 20th January and good luck.

Just loping around. Extremely fond of roast boar in particular, meat in general and cooking on the barbie. Fish is good too.

  1. Cheers LW. I hope some more cherished colleagues regain consciousness before the 20th. There are two comps here that need their attention.

    Good evening OZ,

Can’t speak for the purlieus of the Thames or the Clyde but here on the bonny banks of the Water of Leith, we don’t really do happiness unless it’s been temporarily induced by alcohol. So, I’ve been struggling with this one.

Mind, I am going to my first Burns supper of the year this Friday so I’ll take my camera and get tore into the malt just for your sake..Expect incoming about 3 am if I have judged my state of happiness just right and have not toppled forward into unrestrained and over-exuberant euphoria or fallen back into mild non-dourness.

  4. Good Afternoon Mr. Mackie, I once read a tale where two medical gents were conducting a lengthy evening test on a unsuspecting volunteer, their theory was that a surfeit of the grain would cause the person to fall forward whereas too much of the grape would cause a backwards toppling, while they were discussing the imminence of a result the subject slipped sideways to the floor negating the whole experiment. I would appreciate any personal insight you may be able to provide regarding this matter.

Regarding happiness : A friend of mine from Minnesota once described a Presbyterian to me as ” A religious person who lives in a state of constant fear that someone, somewhere, may be enjoying themselves.”

    Enjoy your dinner.

  5. Aye weel, LW, I will.

Interesting, I hadn’t thought about the sideways option. It’s a possibility when I think about it. I’ll have to monitor the haggis/neep/tattie/whisky intake proportion and then hope that the speeches don’t bring me to a state of slumping in a comatose state onto the shoulder of my ‘drouthy neibor’ (copyright R Burns ‘Tam O’Shanter’ line 2) at the table.

It’s a worry! So much for trying to achieve personal happiness in time to enter OZ’s competition.

Your Minnesotan friend has us bang to rights, by the way. Although an agnostic, I am definitely a Presbyterian agnostic and am reasonably certain that the Good Lord, if he exists, did not put us on this Earth to be happy or to enjoy ourselves. .

  6. Good evening OZ,

You have made a few overtures toward me regarding the poetry competition. I would like to put your mind at ease that as a happy Presbyterian (LW would say that is an oxymoron) I am hard at work on writing an ode.
    Think, think, think.

  7. One box checked (or should that be tartanned) for north of the border. Until the end I thought this entry would be about Irn Bru.

  8. Oh crap and bother, OZ my dear
The deadline ‘proaches fast I fear
Alack, alas but it is nigh
    An oversight, I sadly sigh

    My happiness, were time enough
Would be to contribute some stuff
A worthy entry to the comp
A photo or a literary romp

In truth, I have been very busy
Little ones just make one dizzy
It’s been a joy but such a slog
So very little time to blog.

The photos what I lately took,
Forget the happiness, I had a look.
All out of focus, not much cop
    A truly awful recent crop

  9. Clang! The gates are now closed on the two comps with many thanks to cherished colleagues who took part. The NSW and I are going out to lunch, so we’ll settle down in front of the fire later this afternoon with a couple of brandies and give all the entries their deserved close scrutiny.
