Sad but inevitable. We measure our own mortality by the passing of the heroes of our youth.
Which reminds me …
When we were dating (waaaay back in the mid ’80s) in order to get a drink on a Sunday a person had to have a meal, so pubs and bars were shut but dining establishments flourished.
One such establishment was Rakes, a big old Victorian house set on a large plot in one of Jhb’s leafy northern suburbs, alfresco dining with live music – jazz
We’d been to Rakes a couple of times and when on the one Sunday I suggested we pay another visit the reply was no thanks, I don’t like jazz, it sounds like the same ol’ music being played over and over but with different instruments!
And there ended my Sunday jazz afternoons 🙂
A good innings, RIP
Tme may have run out for Brubeck but the dance goes on. His quartet was classy indeed. A giant in modern day music.
