That’s not a cat…..

THIS is a cat.  For scaling purposes that cake tin is the standard size of an old double-layered Rovers Assorted biscuit tin and everything else is normal, including the gap between the worktop and the wall cupboards. He owns some friends of ours and I took the photo.

Just loping around. Extremely fond of roast boar in particular, meat in general and cooking on the barbie. Fish is good too.

  1. Sorry, Soutie. The picture didn’t seem to want to load in Firefox, but was fine in Chrome. 😦

  2. How bizarre, you would have to be a bloody giant to reach the cupboards!
Plus what is that tree through the doorway?
Lots of cats are large, doesn’t look that unreasonable, 25lb or so? A girlfriend of mine had a monster cat that was over twice the size of one of my Jack Russells. The dog used to sit and eye it all the time trying desperately not to show how terrified of it she was. They saw rather a lot of each other but the situation was always a Mexican standoff.

  3. Christina – The cat weighs 14.5 kilos, I was told. The cupboards are standard height and I (no giant by any means) can reach them easily.

The tree is a type of ornamental palm very common here, but I regret I can’t give you the Latin name off the cuff. I’ll see if I can track it down. It’s been ‘pineappled’ with a chainsaw to remove dead fronds as it grows and is about fifteen years old presuming the owners put it in when the house was built.

  4. I think I have been spoilt, all USA top cupboards are far nearer the counter, much better for short arses!
I swear most of these kitchens are designed by misogynists!!!
And no under cabinet lights I see, just fine to chop your fingers off!
When I refitted my kitchen in Wales I stood over the fitters and had exactly what I wanted, not the industry standard. (Which never fitted me at 5′ 5″) Plus enough lighting to provide my own son et lumiere.

I do like the plant, no need for its name, wouldn’t grow here in a million years would probably drown!
My cycad is in the greenhouse along with everything else, mainly to keep them dry not warm. I only just keep it frost free above 40 F. More plants are killed by wet than cold.

  5. Sheona – The cat is by no means a fat cat, but just solid brawn, sinew and, apparently, lead. If he chooses to sit on your knee then your knee stays sat on until he is ready to move.

    Nighty night.

  6. janus, some engineer could make a fortune with some mechanical system to get cupboards to go to the right height for all in kitchens. Spousal unit is 6’2″ and always bangs into the upper cupboards. After 10 years here you’d think he would know where they are!
