Anglican angst

I’m popping orf to Olde Englande on the morrow for a gathering of the clan. So naturally my thoughts turned again to Justin Wellby, who has received his first hospital pass even before he starts his new job. It seems a bit odd really, although that may be because I am not privy to the inner workings of Lambeth United.

They have a sort of fans’ committee which makes all the decisions and a sub-committee  that chooses the new CEO, subject to royal approval. Now in any normal club the CEO can be expected to champion all the committee’s decisions. It makes life so much easier after all. But not so at Lambeth. The fans had their meeting planned long before Justin got the nod and the agenda was duly published in good time – including the controversial ‘no females’ rule, to be discussed for the umpteenth time. And everybody knew that Justin liked women and saw no reason to exclude them from the club’s top jobs.

So the fans duly voted against – yet again – and now it’s excreta in ventaxia in Lambeth. Silly really. I wonder if Her Maj agrees with me.

  1. Lots of weeping and wailing in the ranks, but ’twas the laity wot scuppered it.

It will happen in time, but not for at least for another five years.

But, but… the laity are heavily represented on the jobs commission too. Why didn’t they appoint a sexist boss if that’s what they (still) want?
