Funny one, well I laughed. Never noticed that before.
LW, I’m glad you feel able to put up a joke – though I don’t understand it.
Nor me, c’mon tell us why in words of one syllable!
For the non-mathematicians and the non- engineers,
31 in octal (base 8) represents the same quantity as 25 in decimal (base 10).
Hence humour. 🙂
Just as Bearsy said, 3X8+1 =25 and 2X10+5=25
Of course, that’s why Sept 11 = Nov 8 or even Dec 8
But will always be Bin 100 to me.
Not sure ‘they’ ought to have let you lot out!
Damn, spousal unit tottered off mumbling about octals etc I just thought he was losing it faster than usual! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
Did anyone hear that loud swooshing noise? Something just went way over my head…
Thanks LW and Bearsy.
I was going to explain today, but there is no need now. I did say it was one for nerds. 🙂
Sob!
OZ
Double sob! The NSW has just woken up demanding, for some reason best known to herself, the collective noun for frogs. Why is my life so difficult?.
OZ
A ribbitt of frogs?
Or should that be gribbitt?
I was one of the victims of that experiment known as New Maths. My classmates and I wasted 2 years learning about Set Theory and Bases and other more obscure areas of mathematics instead of the conventional stuff that other 12-14 year-olds were learning. When the syllabus reverted, we struggled to catch up, or at least I certainly did.
I never learned logarithms and I suck at calculus.
On the plus side, I got FEEG’s joke.
I larfed until I stopped.
It’s an army or colony of frogs – or strangely a knot.
It’s a kermit akshully.
“A Grenouille of Frogs” sounds strangely appropriate.
