One of my many Atlases is an historical one, series of progressive maps, who did what to who, how, where and when etc, it provides many hours of fun!
(As you say, if you like that sort of thing!)
Looking at the extent of the Roman empire brings to mind the EU. Just so y’all can think – “It could have been worse!”
Think about all that little lot running round each others back yards! Not that the Romans indulged in such idiocy as ‘human rights’ or ‘rights to family life’ They would have laughed themselves sick!
Mind you it would be rather nice to see lawyers crucified rather than religious maniacs, it could have caught on…….
Another of my more idle posits re maps- the expansion of humanity across America. For the life of me I never really understood why they bothered to integrate West of the American cordillera into the USA. Why California, Oregon, Washington State and British Columbia didn’t form into their own country they have so little in common with the rest of the continent. All strictly political no physical reason why they should have bothered.
