  1. Sheonah, good evening.

What they say about lightning is, of course, that it does not strike twice in the same place. Not a problem then? Same ‘celebrity’ chef but different place.

I live in hope that your dining experience will be better in the London franchise than it was in the Cambridge one.

Bon appetit with an acute thingie.

  2. I remember (said Old Grey Beard) when Covent Garden was cheap and unassuming too. Eliza sold ‘er flowers and spoke proper like ‘Enry said. She wos a good girl, she wos.

  3. Well I’m afraid that would bring on the vulgar expression-
    “Fuck my old boots!”
What about a strategic withdrawal to the South of France, can’t you tell them your cactus needs watering or something equally life threatening?

  4. Unfortunately, Christina, everyone knows that we are hanging around waiting for the arrival of second granddaughter in October – whenever she decides – so there can be no retreat to the south of France just yet.

  5. I think you should be analysing your choice of ‘friends’ – do you really want to know people who invite you to eat in these places!

I, too, remember Covent Garden was cheap and unassuming. I usually meet my daughter there – and last year found a really great place to eat. It was not particularly cheap but neither was it horrendously expensive, but it was good food and, more important for me, it was quiet!

  6. Boadicea, in this case not “friends” yet but the mother and her partner of daughter-in-law-to-be. Don’t want to start WW3 before the wedding.

We like Belgo’s in Covent Garden, though it’s not always quiet, being in a cellar. Hearty Belgian food and beers though.
