On this day a little more than 35 years ago.

Well, actually, not this exact day, but nearly, (I couldn’t resist the title,)  the UK Chart Number One was Anne Shelton and Bing Crosby singing ‘Galway Bay’…and the number one song was based on the sales of sheet music.

What was the number one song on your day of birth?

Find out here.

  1. Does not go far enough back for an old git like me!

However, some adroit Googling says it was “It’s been a long, long time” by Harry James and his Orchestra. Never heard of either of them before!

  2. FEEG, beat me to it!
I’m going for Mediaeval plainsong chant, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. I feel like Methuselah even if I ain’t quite yet, a work in progress!

  3. Bravo, good evening.

You had me going there for a minute as I thought that the Alzheimers had finally kicked in. I had absolutely no recollection of Anne Shelton and the boy Bing collaborating song-wise at any time let alone crooning ‘Galway Boy’ in harmony.

Then I checked my own dear natal day, courtesy of your link, and learnt that it was. allegedly, celebrated by Vaughan Monroe and his Orchestra and the omnipresent Bing belting out ‘Riders in the Sky’.

So, I’ve worked out that we are talking different versions of the relevant hits and not duets, When I think about it, the clue is in the sheet music bit and they are listing the most popular performers of the song in question,

Is there a hint in your post that just about now is the day when you get to play the Beatles ‘When I’m 64’ hit for real? If not, I apologise but thanks again for the link.

If so, I wish you the best of days.

  4. Just been playing with the site to which you kindly provided a link, Bravo. Would it be presumptuous of me of me to assume you are a Virgo?

Nothing wrong with that at all, so am I. 🙂

  5. Hi Bravo,

The charts were in existence when I entered this world. After consulting my Guinness book of hit records (I am not a googler) the tome tells me that the number one hit was Reach Out I’ll Be There by the Four Tops.
    I’m disappointed that I checked.

  6. Howzit Bravo,

Of course we’ve been left out of the sample (again!) but nice link nevertheless, what I found really really interesting was the No.1’s on the dates of my children’s births, groan!!!.

  7. San Francisco – flowers in hair n’ all – was the thing when my eldest daughter arrived in ’67. A summer of lerv, if ever there was one. 🙂

  8. On my birthday it was ‘It’s now or never’ Elvis Presley.
and on my 21st, ‘Don’t you want me’ Human League!
Wedding day ‘It’s a sin’ The Pet Shop Boys.

    what fun!
