I know that it’s none of my business but I couldn’t help noticing this from the front page of today’s Mail on line…

“The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 10in tall with short greyish hair and is believed to be armed.”

I thought that references to the colour of a person’s skin was considered non-PC!

Just look up Christopher Newsome and Channon Christian. It is a horrific story of a white couple on a date who were carjacked, raped, sodomised, mutilated, tortured and murdered, by 5 black people. (I won’t point to any links myself as there are some that are clearly partisan in their coverage. I invite you to make up your own mind.) The story failed to make it to the main stream media. Smaller news outlets and bloggers wrote about it asking why the big boys ignored it. The main reason given was that since there was no evidence that the crime was racially motivated it was deemed to be just another crime and not newsworthy. The trials and tribulations of such luminaries as Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan on the other hand were of national interest.

In my view this is clearly nonsense and that there is a larger agenda at stake which gets to the point of your observation. Various freedom of information acts mean that it does not take much investigation to arrive at the statistics regarding the numbers for black on white crime relative to white on black crime. However, there must surely be a conspiracy to keep the former, which are much greater, out of the public eye while making the whole of society aware of even the slightest misdemeanour perpetrated by a white person against a black. Cases ranging from the Stephen Lawrence affair to John Terry serve as examples of the relentless press coverage.

It has often puzzled me why this should be the case. I can only conclude that were the public, the majority of whom are still white in the US and the UK, truly aware of the extent to which blacks commit crimes against whites, the backlash would be so huge that any chance of racial integration would be futile. If the all the networks and mainstream newspapers covered every black on white crime to the same extent that the Stephen Lawrence’s murder was covered, the vigilantes would be out in force. Ultimately I suppose it could lead to something approaching another Holocaust.

So, it is not your imagination that double standards apply to the reporting of crimes. It is a deliberate policy to keep the public in the dark. It may work in the short term, but I cannot help feeling that at some point, something is going to give.

I have started watching Series 3 of The Wire on DVD. While I have heard of it before I have never watched any of it, not even series 1 or 2. Series 3 is all about drug dealing on the streets of Baltimore. It does not provide an edifying view of the particular culture that is dominant in that part of the world. What I find even more unpalatable than the criminal aspect, is the political corruption. All policies and mayoral activities appear to revolve around power and re-election. Democracy sucks.

  3. As a student of TV crime series I confirm that if you shoot a dead body you risk being charged with being an accessory after the fact and disturbing a crime-scene. 😉

  4. In keeping with the spirit of this post and a new article on the Dark side

    Henley linkey thing

I would love to see the heasline

Someone in Henley fails to get a grip of family member

    instead of the more correct

Someone in Henley fails to get a grip of member of family

    Snigger!

  5. No sense of humour some people 😀 Didn’t the Ancient Greek athletes compete naked. (γυμνοσ – gymnos, naked, but we’re an educated lot here, so we all knew that.)

  6. Headlines get worse on a daily basis. Love the thought of pot shotting corpses, maybe they should make it into an Olympic sport!

I do agree with sipu on the racial crime reporting thing. We get the Seattle news here, they never actually say who did the shooting but by the interviews of witnesses and friends etc, it is painfully obvious that they are black. It is appalling how much crime in Seattle goes on, gets worse and worse all the time and the media has become remarkably skilled in dodging the race issue. I refuse to go near the place, people have now got to the point of instructing their children to drop to the floor of vehicles with out argument and instantly on command to dodge the wildly flying bullets, what a bloody carry on.

Genius, Christina!! I envisage a combined hammer and clay-pigeon shooting event – something along the lines of the biathlon, but very, very different. If they ever find the pondlife who poisoned Fogo, I’d have Geoff Capes launch the fekker skyward still alive into the sights of a shoooter not quite good enough to get a clean kill first (or second) time.

  8. Well at least the cop didn’t retaliate.

As for racial crime I do not understand any of this John Terry nonsense, so he called him a black c***. Well in truth he is black as for the other bit surely that is the insult?
