Uninvited Guests: New Poetry Competition

Uninvited Guests

How could they do it? Cheek she cried;
Feathers all a’fluff.
They could have rung or written,
What arrogance for sooth!

Oh course, we would have said please do;
Forsaking total truth;
Just a courtesy to say;
We want to come and see you dear,
And when can we arrive?

Oh, Thursday week, a year away,
I may have put them off.
But no, a knock, a beaming smile
“And here we are to stay!”

How lovely!

A week goes by and time stands still;
Why did they come at all?
Hotels like this are hard to find,
But guests begin to pall.

Why can’t they help, for goodness sake,
I’m quite rushed off my feet.
The atmosphere begins to chill
As tempers slowly heat.

A sudden call, a plea for help;
We have to go away.
Regret you’ll have to go, you two
But great to have you stay!

We shut the door and dance with joy;
They were indeed a pain!
It’s bliss to see the back of them,
Perhaps you’ll come again?

Lovely!

  1. Duly noted Ara.

    My apologies to everybody. We got back from sunny Puglia an hour ago.

    I had set the closing date in the expectation of being able to relax by the pool of our holiday villa, sipping a gin and tonic and reading all the entries.

    The pool was not open for the season yet as the temperature had only just managed to crawl up to a miserable 27 degrees Centigrade and the promised wifi connection had not yet been set up. So, I’ve been off the Internet all week, Bliss!

    Catching up with e-mails and picking up puppy tonight so judgement day will have to be tomorrow night.

    My apologies again.

  2. Hi Nym.

    Yes, I was almost half way through a pome but did not feel inspired and ran out of time, so this is one Ethel prepared earlier. 😉

  3. Hello Mr Mackie.

    Sorry things did work out as planned, but hope you enjoyed your break. No need to apologise though, tomorrow will be fine.
