Five weeks ago I was told that it was amazing that Bearsy was still alive, that he might not survive his operation and that he might not wake from the procedure.
I am quite sure that one or two medics might be less than impressed with ‘Dr’ Boadicea who has asked questions, queried decisions and made sure that whatever experts are required have been brought in ASAP. But, to be honest, I cannot fault the medical care that Bearsy has received – at the ‘working’ level it has been magnificent.
One week ago, Bearsy was transferred from a high care ward to a ‘half-way’ re-hab unit. I was NOT happy – and said so.
Dare I admit that I might have been wrong… 😦
In the last week, Bearsy’s dreadful sense of humour has emerged, along with his pedantic insistence on accuracy – grrr!
He has done so well that he will be coming home by the end of this week – there is no doubt that he will, eventually, recover fully.
I want to thank all Charioteers for their kind wishes and for keeping the site going. I may not have been very visible – but I have really have appreciated being able to look in to another world. 🙂
This is excellent news, Boadicea. Thank you for telling us.
Very glad to hear of Bearsy’s progress. Best wishes to you both. x
Brilliant, this is very good news indeed, glasses will be raised to you both.
Great news indeed.
Must be better if he is regaining his cantankerous side!
Best wishes.
I note below your resurrected dream of travel to India with a degree of incredulity!
Look, just bang the poor old soul on the head and take his urn to visit. A lot easier on the body and the soul.
Can’t imagine any where more conducive to ‘seeing off’ the elderly and ailing.
(This has now become my excuse for not going as far as Seattle. Full of drug resistant TB ridden Indian immigrants!)
Boa, take my advice and give India a miss – unless you can ignore the abject poverty and degradation imposed by the caste system. I couldn’t.
Boadicea: if you want to go to India just go to Brick Lane when you’re back in the UK.
Great news, Boadicea. 🙂
Thank you for letting us know. Any idea when he will be cooking again? 😉
Hurrah! Good news indeed! 🙂
Thank you for the update! It sounds like Bearsy is quickly getting back to his old self. You can’t keep a good bear down.
Go to India. It is on my list as well. Most of the people I know who has been there, loved it.
It is smashing news Boadicea and yes it seems like a miracle when I remember your first post when you must have feared the worst. His return to home must be like the second coming! But can you cope with it all! As so many have said previously, build in some time for your own adjustments. I shall certainly toast the pair of you tonight! As for India, I would be delighted to give you a tour of Tooting market, though I bet you know it like the back of your hand. You would be my guests at the Lahore Karahi (Tooting that is.)
Bloody marvellous news, Boadicea, especially about The Bear’s “pendantic” insistence on accuracy.
Tee hee!
OZ
Thanks for the comments – and the correction to my spelling!
Sorry, Boadicea – couldn’t resist it. I know you have much more to worry about right now than an errant digit, but I thought Bearsy would appreciate it. Best wishes to you both from me and the NSW. 🙂
OZ
So why haven’t we had a post or comment from him?
Do they allow laptops, tablets etc. in the ward? Ours do.
He only has one day left to meet the ‘cinquain’ deadline, tell him to get a move on 🙂
Let’s hear it for the Bear!!!
Most excellent news Boadicea thank you for the update. 🙂
Why doesn’t that surprise me?
Janus #19. I am guessing you are implying that I and my acquaintances would have little problem ignoring “the abject poverty and degradation imposed by the caste system”.
Do you have any idea just how selfish, foolish and hypocritical that confirms you to be? You seem to imagine that by not being there and observing it, the poverty and degradation in India will cease to exist. You are like a small child who thinks that because he cannot see you, you cannot see him. You confine yourself to a North European ivory tower, in one of the most ‘waspish’ places on earth and have the audacity to criticise others who engage the real world, where poverty, crime and destitution are every day occurrences.
At least by going to India and seeing the less salubrious side of it, one can gain an insight into the country’s problems and make an informed opinion of the place, even to the extent of doing something about it. As it happens, at least two of the people I know who have been there are actively involved in charitable work as a result of their visits, while my cousin and her husband actually live there and have done so for many years.
In any event, along with the downside, there is much that is worth seeing. It is not all Slumdog.
Delighted at his progress
Now, now, Janus and Sipu. Keep playing nicely – Bearsy’s not home yet. 🙂 I’ve never been to India, but I’ve been to enough parts of Africa, South America and the Pacific to have a fair idea. In the latter I would include bits of Hawaii, most of American Samoa and all of French Polynesia.
OZ
If you insist OZ. 😦
Sipu, as I suspected, you are the only inhabitant of your ‘real world’. Your patronising attitude shines brightly through.
Boadicea, good evening.
Great news and I hope that Bearsy is still on track to be home by the weekend. Best wishes to you both.
Bearsy came home today – I have no doubt he will rejoin the Chariot when he feels a little less weary. Many thanks for the comments.
Being somewhat more relaxed than I have been over the last few weeks, I cannot help but laugh at the turn my post has taken into discussing the pros and cons of visiting India 🙂
I am well aware that most of the world does not live with the advantages and privileges that I, and the rest of us on this site, do. I don’t feel guilty about that – nor do I see any point in hiding away from it. It is a simple fact of the way that the world is at this moment. There are places in India that I would dearly love to see and I hope that we will get to see them.
The Tower of London is a great place to visit – I can quite cheerfully ignore the inhabitants of Tower Hamlets!
Boa, all the best to you and Bearsy on his return home. Great news!
Good to hear the Bear is home, Boadicea. 🙂
WHAT EXCELLENT NEWS. (sorry for shouting. The cat seems to have stepped on the keyboard again)
Bo, it is one thing ignoring the ‘residents’, quite another to dodge their germs to which yiou have limited immunity!
Glad he is home!
Pleased and happy for both of you. 🙂
