I do like large-scale surveys, don’t you? They are fodder for every kind of evil logic and this one is no exception:

On the basis of its findings, I’m sure it’s best to be white and retired.

Good, innit? I love un-Aristotelian conclusions.
Don’t forget that statistical analysis if the art of defining your sampling method to get the result you want!
There are lies, damned lies and statistics, somebody once said.
OZ
“Black Britons, it would appear, are significantly less satisfied with their lives than the general population – a score of 6.6 out of 10 compared with a national average of 7.4.”
There you have it. They should not be living in the UK. They should come back to Africa, where they can help sort out the mess we have here.
Seriously though, if there is any scientific substance to these figures, and I am as skeptical as the rest, I think it is the lack of sunshine, more than anything else, in the lives of the Black Britons that makes them that much less happy. I know it was the absence of sunlight that made me miserable living in the UK. It would be interesting to do a comparison in warmer climates and see if the figures came up with any significant variations between races.
Not just for black Britons Sipu – the lack of blue sky really bugs me too and is probably my main gripe with these Isles! I don’t mind the temperature, I just want sunshine! Blue sky = me smiling! Grey sky = me miserable!
And what a load of tosh for a PM to base policy on – shows how clueless he is.
Sipu, your theories are always insightful! Except that most ‘black’ people in the UK haven’t just jumped from a passing banana boat!
Thanks Janus, I like to think that I have that skill; in spades. (Gentle snigger.) (Oops, Chrome spell-check does not like that word. Oh, God, where will it all end?)
For a start, there are one hell of a lot of black people who have jumped off the passing banana boat; metaphorically speaking of course. Windrush was only 60 odd years ago and a good deal of immigrants have arrived since then, especially in the last 30 years.
Secondly, I have little doubt that over the past 30-50,000 years, since those who became West Europeans left Africa, they have become inherently better equipped at dealing with the lack of sunshine than our brethren who remained in sunnier climes. Stands to reason.
Sorry, I screwed up the bold, which was only meant to be around inherently . How is that?
…because you didn’t insert the / in front of your second instruction as you have here (but I fixed that for you)
Soutie 😉
As the survey is by the Beeb I wouldn’t believe any of it.
Sorry, Rick, it wasn’t!

Thanks Soutie, but I got it right when I realised my mistake. ‘Twas just an oversight.
Janus well all surveys and stats can be translated as to what they want us to hear anyway.
Depends upon where they ask the questions and time of day.
Rick, exactly.
