Elephants in trouble – Kruger National Park

Last week saw some pretty serious rain and flooding up in the Northeast of the country. Sunday Times reports here (Flood victims help each other) and here (Six killed in Mpumalanga floods.)

While reading about the tragedy online this series of 3 short videos caught my attention, I thought that I’d share…

    Why not?

Are they ‘blocked’ in the UK?

There’s no sad ending if that’s your concern 🙂

  2. Perhaps I should have added that ‘no elephants were hurt in the recording of these videos’ 😉

  3. Evening Soutie. OK, no, they are not blocked, I’ve just tried the last.

I was concerned about a sad ending, but if this is not the case, then I will watch them.

  4. I found them a remarkable story of the power of the floodwaters. A family of elephants attempts to cross what is probably normally a dry river bed or at best a minor stream on perhaps an established trail.

They persevere, reach high ground in the middle and still try to go further. It must take a pretty strong current to push 4 or 5 ton elephants off course!

    Araminta :

Aren’t they just wonderful to watch?

Well I thought so, I’m pleased that you eventually had a look.

My main reason for posting though, was that our front page was completely bereft of pictures! A situation which (I feel) makes The Chariot look sort of lifeless and boring!

I thought this a more than suitable splash of colour for our front page 😉
