Photo. Comp. #20 the winner.

Well it was an interesting group OZ, Bravo and Ferret very quick off the mark and then…. well not much until about 24 hours before closing when a flood of entries landed in the post. I was drawn to the entries with humans present. OZ’s entry was tantalizing in content and probably also a lesson on how not to take a photograph in a dark and smoky room, Pseu captured that feeling of satisfaction when participants clear their plates and Soutie’s entry certainly captured the “Merry”. Boadicea’s strawberry meringue has all the ingredients of the competition, a smiling face, perhaps after a glass of good wine, and the anticipation of enjoying a sinfully good dessert. Sipu has a merry group with signs of food and drink in abundance, but for uninhibited “Merry” coupled with some serious imbibing and the implied consumption of some good food I hand the prize this time to Bravo.

Well done Bravo, we look forward to your setting the next.

PS I did like OZ’s bucket of hog parts, it’s the kind of picture that gives vegetarians dyspepsia.

  1. Hello Sipu: It is possible and the benefit of the doubt is always extended. I took this one one day last winter when OZ had a thing about vehicles going, it is me shivering there and the only fear I had was that the camera would freeze up before the shutter timed out.

  2. LW, I am just kidding. I would hate to be thought churlish in defeat! In any event, it could have been Bravo’s twin brother, the one he is always going on about! 🙂

  3. Well quite, Sipu. I will eventually recover from the dreadful indignity of my entry being completely ignored. Eventually, I will get over this; I hope. 😦

  4. Commiserations, Araminta.

Sipu, Low Wattage – had John Mackie not adhered rigidly to the rules, I would have won a previous competition; he said so himself.

Let us appeal to Bravo’s conscience. 🙄

  5. Sipu, Bearsy: For the avoidance of doubt, if the good Bravo excludes himself, the winner will certainly be Boadicea. I did like that close up, and the dessert.

Ara: All the entries were of stunning and uniform excellence, my only regret is that I could not award 10 first prizes. No inference should be drawn and none is implied by the inclusion in or exclusion of any one or more of the entries from the announcement.

Yes, it really has come to this.

  7. Sipu: His content usually scares me more than the Postscript, usually it’s something requiring me to “Forward this to at least ten of your friends or your left leg will develop gangrene and require surgical removal”

  8. You are all right, of course, I didn’t take the photo, so I cannot in all conscience accept the accolade, as graciously bestowed as it is. Bugrit!

I have to confess I didn’t actually think about that when I posted the picture to the competition post – bit daft, really…

So, red-faced, I pass the baton swiftly to Boadicea with many, properly deserved, congratulations.

  9. LW

I’m pretty sure that they will 😉

Although Boadicea did she that she would be traveling shortly, lets wait and see if the travel plans don’t interrupt.

It is possible of course (just) that if Boadicea declares herself unavailable you may have to award a bronze medal, I wonder………… 😉

  10. Sorry Bravo, I was not really intending to snitch on you. Of course now that Boa has won, it does make one wonder (a lot of 1s there) who was the redhead eating the meringue! The thick plottens.

  11. You are not suggesting another self portrait are you Sipu? The absence of a wedding ring could be a clue. I did wonder the same thing when I first saw the picture. How about “Let us appeal to Boadicea’s conscience”

  12. Hee hee. i was rather hoping Bravo would win for the pure joy of his photo. Well done Bravo, and very well spotted LW. The nurses, the next morning, were rather glad they were somewhat blurred and you can interpret that any way you like – I’m outta here.

  13. The picture is definitely not of me – I think meringues that size should be eaten in privacy! And I took the photo!

Will give some thoughts in the next hour or two before catching the plane on the next Photo competition.

    Many thanks LW!

  14. Congratulations, Boadicea, and a Good New Year to you,

Still think that Bravo’s photo was a worthy winner for pure joie de vivre but he is, of course, right to disqualify himself.

I assure you that this joke works in Jockinese.

A man walks into a baker’s shop, points at an item on display and asks ‘Is that an eclair or a meringue?’

To which the assistant replies ‘No, you’re no wrang. It is an eclair.’

Safe home to the UK and I hope that your Mum makes a full recovery. Best wishes to you and Bearsy from Mrs M and myself.

  15. Good New Year to you, too, John.

I, too, thought Bravo’s photo was excellent – it is a shame that it had to be disqualified.

    Thanks for the best wishes.

    🙂

  16. Sipu, don’t feel bad. We have all enjoyed the picture of Bravo dancing – it is so full of life. This site is better for having so many bright-eyed observers, both pictorially and in comments. Your observation only adds to the excellence of this site. I quite accept Bravo’s comment that he gave no thought to whether he took the picture or not. It just jumps out wanting to be seen! So thanks to Bravo for sharing it!
