It just keeps getting better

The Labour Party should avoid all usage of Twitter.

I am sure you have all heard of that repulsive woman Diane Abbott’s little faux pas on Twitter by now. You know, the ones about White Folk liking to Divide and Rule and also the one about Black Cab (ironic or what?) drivers not stopping for black people hailing them.

Now Ed Milliband has had an even bigger cock-up on Twitter. In commenting on the sad reports of the death of Bob Holness of Blockbusters fame, he tweeted thus:

He is now trending on Twitter under the hashtag #edmillibandgameshows, where tweeters are invited to come up with suitable game show titles that he could sponsor. It is worth a look if you want a laugh!

  1. More to the point everyone should avoid such a moronic toy.
When you consider how many man hours must be wasted farting around with such thumb twiddling, one wonders whether and when any of them ever get any work done!
It is getting to the point that one fervently wishes for some manic sunburst or whatever to restore a degree of sanity to humanity and fry a few gadgets.

Back to clay tablets I say!

  2. I am inclined to be indulgent towards this post, notwithstanding the fact that I have never heard of Bob Holness or of Blockbusters, whatever that may be, and ignoring the obsession of the British with the word black, which I find ridiculous, but for Christ’s sake let’s have a grammatical title, shall we? 👿

  3. I was saddened to hear of his death, actually. He was always so bright and twinkling on telly.

  4. I think if the title ended with “mon” or “innit”, Bearsy, it would be considered perfectly grammatical in certain circles. Here it’s a typo, that’s all. Chill!

  5. Sheona – er, I think I realised that.

But since the post is about an inadvertent typo made by some Pommie pollie, I decided to employ a little ironic humour in my comment, as indicated by the Smiley.

    No matter. 🙄

  6. But your “smiley” on #3 has a downturned mouth and looks grim, Bearsy. It quite frightened me!

  7. Oooh, Bearsy, you are being an old grump! In order to pacify your sensibilities, I have corrected the typos you mention. Please feel free to correct any others you see 🙂

Anyone living in the UK who was either a school-kid or had kids at school in the 80s and 90s will have heard of Bob Holness and Blockbusters. Learn more about him here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Holness

It was particularly relevant that the typo was BlAckbusters and not BlOckbusters as the repulsive Diane Abbott, who is a black MP with a huge chip on her shoulder, has produced several tweets that have annoyed the rest of the country as they seem to indicate she is racially prejudiced.

As for “Pommie pollie”, what cheek. I hate all politicians of all hues equally! 🙂

  8. Holness – lovely chap, fondly regarded by a generation of school kids who would come home, switch on the telly and watch a fun general knowledge quiz in the hope that one of the contestants would say “can I have a p please Bob”! 😀

He was the first actor to play James Bond I believe, on the radio.

As for the twats on twitter, you get what you deserve on that. What a plonker. I bet some junior aid who actually wrote it has been suitably dumped.

  9. I’m with you Bearsy on this, it never ceases to stagger me who people consider to be celebrities, I have never ever heard of them.
Actually I thought they were referring to the chain of stores that rent out videos, recently gone bust and that the fellow was the CEO or something. Considering I was in the UK in the 80s and 90s it never occurred to me that it was some mentally deficient game show!
I presume that this is so?

Time someone turned off the electricity!

While I agree with your acerbic views for much of the time, Christina, sometimes you prove to be too much of a fuddy duddy even for me! 😦

  11. Thanks Christina.
Never seen him, never heard of him, never watched gameshows.

Molly Meldrum seems to be gradually recovering – that’s good news, isn’t it? 🙄

  12. Bearsy , that’s cheating!
Had to google him/her and found ‘it’ was antipodean.
    Bad bear!

  13. Tee hee!
That was my point, Christina. Nobody recognises Aussie “personalities”, so why should I (or you) recognise Pommie ones? 😀

  14. I must say I have never understood this celebrity thing. Celebrated for what? Generally being low IQ, fatuous, idiot giggly or obscene, hitched and stitched to a travesty of humanity and queer as a two dollar bill.
I don’t give a damn where they come from, not worth a bucket of spit by the gross.

Actually not quite sure most of them are human at all.

The acid test being- would you seriously wish to entertain any of them for any length of time in your own home?
    Not likely!
