I assume the pic is that of Hockney?
Strikes me remarkably like a knock off of Van Gogh?
Sorry, but for the life of me I cannot see why such are worth more than the frame!
I don’t understand modern art and know almost nothing about it, but oddly, and most unusually, I find this rather pleasing.
Minty, I agree with you on this one.
Hi Rick.
I’d be hard pushed to explain why I find it pleasing but I’m not sure it’s necessary to do so.
The shapes and colours are pleasing, although unnaturally exaggerated to my eye, except the sky which is quite realistic. I like it.
The BBC science program is currently setting up a competition to help a member of the public to explore a topic they are interested in – in a scientific manner. One of the contenders is hoping to experiment on a way of measuring a reaction to art and to see if it correlates to the value put upon it

Hockney has always been a classicist – because technically he is a master. ‘Modern’ art is really a very imprecise term!
As ‘modern art’ goes it’s not too bad… but I wouldn’t put it on any of my walls!
If you put ‘Van Gogh cornfield pic’ into Google search you will see what I mean, the brush work is a perfect knock off for some of the latter pics.
There is so much more movement in the original. I’ve always thought of Hockney as a technician rather than interpretive.
