Potential perspective photographs have been presenting themselves to me, or literally pouncing out at me ever since I set the challenge.
I took this one in Weston-Super-Mud, for example!
There were lots of good entries (See here –) and in the end I narrowed the choice down to the pictures posted by
I consulted techie Adviser for his opinion and without knowing so he confirmed my leanings.
So well done John.
I love the wavy lines, the misty light, the sculpture and the sense of distorted perspective. You are the winner for sixpence! I pass the baton onto you.

I searched far and wide, but couldn’t find one. Well done, Mr Mackie!
Nice choice, Nym.
I thought there were some excellent entries, but Mr. Mackie is a worthy winner. 🙂
Well done JM, a scholar and a gentleman. I too liked the misty tranquility of this shot with almost a ripple effect into the distance.
You’ve confused me, Pseu. I thought the photo above the “Congratulations to JM for Chatsworth” was of Edinburgh Castle. Would it not be good to put the winning photo up there so as not to confuse Glaswegians who can only just recognise Edinburgh Castle?
Not Pseu’s fault, Sheona. Only I can place material on the sidebar.
The “Congratulations to the Winner” box at the top of the sidebar has always displayed the winner’s Gravatar, and contained a link to the winning picture (click on the displayed Gravatar to go to see the winning picture). It has always been so.
The fact that John Makie’s Gravatar is a picture of Edinburgh Castle, whereas his winning photo was taken at Chatsworth, and bore no other title, is just one of life’s confusing little irritants.
I disliked JM’s pic the minute it appeared, the front sculpture appears to be off centre not only on its plinth but also in the shot, the leaves haven’t been swept along the path resulting in a feeling of untidiness, I also thought that what fellow colleagues call ‘misty tranquility’ was actually poor focusing! Only kidding, I knew it would be a challenge to mine the moment I saw it.
Well done JM, nice one Pseu, not too difficult a theme and nicely judged. There were some jolly nice entries.
Thanks for the mention, maybe I should have made the 2nd picture with the 2 ‘points’ my entry 😉
(I know, I couldn’t, it wasn’t mine :()
Soutie, yours was a strong contender, but in discussions with my adviser the wiper blades were considered to be distracting – it could have swung both ways…. the wiper blades gave perspective on the shot as well 🙂
Well done, John (Grits teeth!) 🙂
It will be interesting to see what challenge he sets 🙂
Thanks Pseu and everyone else, Deeply honoured.
But bugrit (© T Pratchett and The Bulletin). I know that I am not good at setting these competitions. I still wake up at night sweating about the nightmare that was the diptych disaster.
I’ll do my best to think of something better this time.
How about a snap of a new Edinburgh tram, JM?
Hi Sheona.
As a rational human being, I do not believe in the existence of such an unlikely creature as a ‘new Edinburgh tram’. It is an unachievable figment of a crazed and delusional imagination, in my opinion. I truly resent the incredible sums of money which the City of Embra are wasting in a doomed attempt to prove that it might possibly exist at some point in the future..
I accept, of course, that such a creature might have existed in the past. In truth, I think that I may have spotted one myself at the National Tram Museum in the Peak District a few short weeks ago.
And just for you and JW, here’s a Weegie one as well. .
