I have to admit that I’m somewhat addicted to the game ‘Spider’. The version on Windows 7 allows one to retrack to the beginning even after one has ‘lost’.
Until this week, I had a record of winning 86 consecutive games. In the last few days I got to 84 – and could go no further. Bearsy got that game out for me and I’ve just continued playing …
Yesterday, I got to 153 continuous wins… and I couldn’t get the 154th game out. I asked Bearsy for help. He had several tries while I was cooking dinner – no success!
Well 153 seemed a pretty good score and I was about to hit the ‘exit’ button and thought “One Last Try”. I got that game out.
It’s becoming a bit boring! But, I’ve now won 184 consecutive games – and I’m loathe to give up until I have to!
Would you give up – or carry on until ‘forced’ to stop?
Don’t make me laugh – you’re completely and utterly addicted. It’s so bad that you’ve even written a post about it.
No housework, no cooking, no marital or conjugal episodes – the Bear is abandoned and distraught. I shall have to buy a can of cyber-Mortein. 😦
I have no idea…
Whatever turns you on, Boadicea! Try Freecell, my usual potboiler.
Take two aspirins and a cold shower and then go to bed, Bearsy … if you’re still feeling bad in the morning …..
DESTROY HER COMPUTER 🙂
Slightly harsh, methinks.
Not at all ……………. better than handcuffing her to the bed 🙂
Kinky so–n-so!
I been playing F18 Hornet for years now, not once have I managed to nuke Saddam’s dam or his nuclear bunker although I did manage to accidentally nuke Pearl Harbour when I crashed my plane into a tall building while thinking of Bin Laden 🙂
Oh no, kinky would involve a mother in law at the very least 😦
🙂
Hmmm – I’ve cooked some very nice meals in the last week – not so sure I’ll bother this week… 🙂
It would take a very brave man / woman / child to destroy my two computers… 🙂
Funny that , I just received an email from Bearsy offering me $5000 Dollars if I can hack your computer to death for just one weekend … a long one 🙂
🙂
Boadicea, I do not have Windows 7, but if your version of Spider is similar to the one that comes with Windows XP and you are playing it with 4 suits, then I am very impressed that you have got as far as you have. I have only played it a few times so I am no expert, but Is every game winnable?
To answer your question, I am not sure that I would continue for as long as you have just for the sake of it. However, recently I was sent a puzzle that I have not yet worked out. I refuse to look at the answer til I have. Only problem is, there may not be a solution, in which case I will never know.
Boa, at least your addiction doesn’t make you fat, pollute the house or cause you to go amok. Bearsy’s a lucky man IMHO.
No Sipu – I’m not playing the advanced version – only the intermediate.
A moment’s lapse of concentration and I pressed the exit button after the 198th game! Grrr!
Thanks Janus!
When do you give up?
How many years have you been playing the game, Boadicea?
I think it took me about five years before I lost interest, and I was playing the advanced version!
I recall Badger playing Spider a lot, he once got it out in around a 100 moves and wondered what the record score was.
I looked it up for him, mathematically 46 moves is (im)possible, I seem to recall somebody solved one in less than 80!
A quick google reveals an 88.
I only play this game now with four suits. I have managed to complete it a number of times, but the difficulty gets exponentially greater 😦
I don’t have the patience to play the four suit version!
I usually start a game while I’m waiting for stuff to download… I am not noted for my patience. 🙂
FEEG.
Yes, I agree, it’s not easy but extremely gratifying when it works.
I’ve been playing it for years, albeit not recently, but inspired by this post, I tried it before supper. I played four games, and succeeded once!
