Diptych

I’ve apologized elsewhere for missing the deadline for the recent photo competition, entries were supposed to be in by the 24th (!) why not the 30th (which is what I thought or the 15th?) By the way, a diptych has to comprise of two contrasting pictures illustrating ‘Work’ and ‘Rest’, or I suppose ‘Before and After’

I missed a poetry one once as well, perhaps we need a voluntary software guru to programme auto e-mail alerts to members who would be keen to participate (anybody got any suggestions as to who could be skilled enough to install such a procedure? ;))

Anyhow, I did have a go and I’m publishing my effort anyway, here goes…

Before and after

  1. Hi Soutie

Spooky! You must have Highland blood and the Second Sight because I logged on tonight with the full intention of awarding the palm of victory, having waited a wee while past the deadline to see if anybody else wanted to have a belated stab at the subject.

The reason for the original deadline is that, sad person that I am, I had gone back through all the previous competitions to see what the topics had been before deciding on the clearly disastrous diptych. During that process, I established that said previous competitions have been on a fourteen day cycle in recent history. I merely followed precedence, even although that is an English Law concept and foreign to our shared Dutch and Roman Law heritages.

Quite happy, if nobody minds, to extend the deadline to 31st August in case anybody does want to summon up sudden enthusiasm for the subject. We we would then be on a logical routine of 15th and last day of month.

C’mon the Bokke. Not long to go now.

  2. Clever, Soutie. 🙂

I think the deadline should be extended, John, but I’m really having a problem with this. It’s not so much the diptych theme as my total involvement in Other Matters More Pressing.

Still, I may just come across something suitable to snap.

  3. Hi John

An extension sounds good to me.

Btw, anyone interested in resurrecting the Creative Writing Comp(s)?

Don’t all shout at once! 🙂

  4. Phew – thank goodness for that! I’ve been up to my hairy bits in visitors all month and was feeling very guilty, but now have a few more days to give it a go.

Yoo hoo Bilby! Perhaps in September?

  5. It’s not the subject or the timing that’s stumping me, it’s just a total failure of inspiration – I have the one half, but not the other 😦

  6. Hi OZ!

Either September or beginning of October, perhaps? The break was a Good Thing, but I’m starting to miss the CW comps. Let’s see what other Cherished Authors think.

Yes, Bilbers! We need pomes…… 🙂

Chher up, Bravo! You have the required perspiration too I expect! 🙂

  9. I’m rather disappointed that my editing and merging has detracted from the ability to view the most important facet of my picture(s), that of course would be the score!

So, just for posterity here’s a slightly larger version 😉

    Who mentioned quality?

  10. OZ, Janus and John M are in favour of resurrecting the CW competitions. How say you, Boadicea, and other Charioteers? Start date end of September, perhaps?

  11. I’m game, once this Wedding is over, you may have my undivided attention.

Well there is the decorating of the inside of the house, the next episode of Cromwell, but …..

  12. Hee hee! I’m glad you reminded me, Ara!

(Of course, you have the added burden of Cromwell 🙂 )

Sorry, Soutie, I seem to have taken over your post.

  13. Apologies here too, Soutie.
RE: the photos. are you sure you have them the right way round? Could it not be that when the rugby came on the people scarpered. 😉

  14. Too true, Bilby, I’ll just have to try and pick 5 paragraphs that fit the theme. 🙂

Meanwhile, better scarper before Soutie arrives.
    Nighty, night.

  15. I of course was disappointed when they were suspended, as I mentioned in this post, my forgetting the date for Ara’s alliteration poetry didn’t help!

Having mistaken two deadlines recently, I’d like to suggest that Bearsy insert the due dates of the various competitions to the links on the sidebar in future. It would certainly be of benefit to me 😳

    I’m all for their reinstatement.

  16. Hello, I’m back… have missed two photo comps, but will be back in the game and also keen for the short story comps to restart 🙂

  17. I think we agreed that Autumn was a good time to restart the various writing competitions. Get the various off-spring back to school and be absolutely certain that the UK really is not suddenly going to have any summer… 🙂

Good to see you back Pseu!

  18. It’s a fantastic day here. And the grass needs cutting. You know what it’s like after a holiday. So much to catch up on. I’m off now to pick beans 🙂

    More later 🙂
