Casual Day 2011

Actual size

Do you have a Casual Day?

Here’s how it works, one day a year (usually the 1st Friday in September) people are encouraged to buy an official sticker for R10.00 (less than £1) and on that day they can go to work, school, university, wherever in casual clothes.

The project has been running for 16 years now, organised by The National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in SA (NCPPDSA) but the big difference this year is that we Autism Eastern Cape are an official distributor.

Which means that we are allowed to keep R4.00 of every ticket sold! 🙂

We’ve been working on this project since about May, hassling friends, walking up to complete strangers, stopping people in the street, bars, coffee shops just about everywhere.

We think that we’ll eventually sell about 3,000 of them!

PS if any of you lot want a couple there is just enough time to post them to you before Sept 2nd 😉

  1. Soutie, I have the impression that in sixteen years the world has moved on – so that ‘casual’ is acceptable all the time in most walks of life. Shame really. 🙂

  2. Howzit guys, shame, not really.

If you had visited the website, people who work or study in casual dress are encouraged to support the day by entering into the spirit and adopting the theme, this year it’s dressing like a rock star.

So. I’ve Billy Idol penciled in for Bravo and Ozzy Osbourne for Janus 😉

  3. Soutie: Ozzy is a bit feminine for Janus, Sharon would be a better choice….

Me I’d go as Elvis, I’d need a little, (some), (a lot) more hair.

  4. Hello LW

Perhaps Janus would have to go as both of them 🙂

Wiki tells me that the whole thing started in Cal. back in the ’90’s, it’s a great idea, supports worthy causes and good fun.

  5. This is an excellent way to fund raise… our schools do a Mufty Day for charity on a regular basis.

  6. Hello Pseu, our schools often have a civvies day, perhaps anything from 400 – 1000 children each paying R5.00 for the privilege, we are often the benefactors. This though is on a national scale, sponsored by our largest bank, outlets in every nook and cranny of South Africa, we’re talking tens of millions here 😉

  7. Hee hee Bravo, perhaps you misread my comment #3, the theme is Rock stars not dead old fogies that nobody under 30 has ever heard of 😉

But for you we’ll make an exception 🙂

  8. I pretty much gave up listening to most pop ‘music’ in the seventies. The ‘music pretty much died after

    Led Zepp, Credence…
