  1. There is a joke in Texas that they should put up signs around their state capital saying “you are now leaving Austin, welcome to Texas”. It seems as if Australia could do much the same.

  2. Christopher – Likewise in Sydney, which is one hour ahead of Queensland, “We willl shortly be landing in Brisbane. Please turn your watch back one hour and your calender 25 years.” 😀

By the way, I love Brissie and QLD with a passion and there is no money that would persuade me to live in NSW.

  3. I lived in Sydney for a year…bo-o-o-o-oring. As fortune would have it, my brother and his family only lived a couple of hours up the road in Newcastle. And my work car was an XK. When I arrived and we were talking about cars the fleet manager, said, ‘Well, there’s this, but I don’t suppose you’ll want it – no-one else does because it’s a manual shift…’ O–K…

  4. Chris, nor me and don’t intend to!
Never fancied anywhere down below 0 for one reason or another with the exception of Chile.

As for the story, who and where has any confidence in their government?
Pack of inept tossers at best and pack of psycho killers at worst.
Fancy being a resident of Syria at the moment? Makes London and Washington look positively benign!

  5. CO: much of it doesn’t interest me, but parts of it do. Australia has an almost magical pull on me, it’s something which I would be at a loss if I could never manage to go.

  6. Cuprum: there is a real possibility that, should I go, I might not leave! I’m still young and healthy enough to do it, and I will have an advanced degree and years of experience behind me by the time I get there. (I’ve worked in academia for several years already)

  7. Christopher – Go for it! I’ve lived there and you won’t regret it I assure you.
