The subject is Contentment.
It can be a picture of contentment or a scene which evokes that feeling in you or others. There – that’s pretty loose isn’t it? Didn’t want to make it too tricky.
Entries (loads of them would be good) please by midnight GB time Sunday 7th August.
Thank you! 🙂

Now, if only I can find a human in that position……..
Lovely jubbly.
Val, you’d have a job to achieve that in a deckchair! 🙂
This is Leo, Pseu. It really is a job to feel stressed about anything when you have a cat who’s mastered total relaxation!
OK.
I wish I had a cat, Jan, they are the epitome of contentment.
Sadly, I don’t, but I will see what I can do! 🙂
Good idea Janh, I shall trawl my archives! I have two teenagers for the week, so perhaps a photo of them slumped on the sofa may win!
One week gone and no entries…?
I didn’t think contentment would be too tricky. A scene of contentment or one that makes *you* feel contented? Lots of possibilities. This is supposed to be summer, after all… 😉
It’s on my mind, Jan… but I haven’t found one yet 🙂
Oh all right Jan. If you insist. Here’s one of Das Fürballen when they were contentedly young.
OZ
I’ll come up with something by the deadline Jan, it won’t be feline related, as you probably know, I have a severe hatred of cats. I’ll be back 🙂
Sweet, OZ! Thanks! 🙂
Blimey Val, I didn’t realise you had a severe hatred of anything. But yes, do come back with a non-feline related image 😀
Fine Pseu. You have your camera back and you know how to use it! 🙂
this arvo I crept up on the cat – asleep in the bushes – to take a quick snap… but he heard me and woke up and came over to see me, grabbing a little attention instead of sleeping!
Its good to kick your shoes off.
Oops, too big, can someone reduce it quickly, before the boss sees it?
Ssh! I won’t tell him.
At the end of a long day…
Ist August 2011, summer is here, lovely jubbly, lets relax, it might be raining tomorrow.
That would get my vote Val. 🙂
Or the one with the three striped deckchairs…. I like that one 🙂
No contented cats, dogs or anything remotely suitable but here is something a little different.
Bookshelf in Dining Room:
Er, well yes, settling down to a crossword is one of my ideas of contentment. 🙂
I took a walk at a state park where I volunteer today, it’s a pity that I didn’t bring my camera as there was a beautiful doe contentedly eating grass in a meadow.
Another one, Jan.
I love bees, and this one looks as though he is a contented little chap.
Thanks for all the great shots so far! One more day for entries, folks! 🙂
Here is an attempt at posting a photo, one from Taipei, Taiwan.
I hope I’m not too late:
Perhaps I should explain. I have spent many, many happy hours here. I was delighted to be able to find the time to visit again this year and, what’s more, was able to find all the answers to my queries!
Saw this sign today, thought that it might qualify.
Hi janh1
Me, coming to the end of an hour and a half snorkelling over the reefs at Michaelmas Cay off Cairns. Low tide was what finally brought me in.
Rubbish photo, taken by Mrs M, using the underwater camera which I had hired but I was seriously contented by the whole experience.
I think that this would have made a good entry – had I taken the photo, of course 😀 (It was my daughter.)
You’ve gone and done it again Bravo, I think you know what I would say next…..
🙂 Pity I can’t claim credit
Just popping in to say ‘thanks folks’ – really good entries! A wonderful variety of interpretations, which is what I was hoping for!! Trouble is, I have no idea how on earth I’m going to pick a winner….
Be back with some news tomorrow evening. In the meantime, the competition is open until midnight tonight.
Thanks again! 🙂
A good topic, Jan!
So thanks again for such an evocative selection of “contentment” images. There wasn’t one that failed to strike a chord with me. OZ’s cat cuddles is just beautiful. Watching cats snooze must be one of the most relaxing things ever.
But other sources of a ‘winding down’ kind of contentment were illustrated by Araminta’s crossword companions and Pseu’s cuppa in the garden, while Boa was reflecting the contentment borne of the success she’s had with researches in the National Archives.
As Val showed, a sunny seaside is a great source of contentment, and I loved the boots abandoned on the beach more than the couple soaking up the rays. The boots conjured up the thought of the person out of shot, standing, trousers rolled up, cooling their bare feet in the shallows.
Photographically, I loved Araminta’s study of the bee and flower – very sharply focused and Christopher’s serene scene featuring the intricate Chinese bridge.
Soutie, your “wine down Sundays” was brill and made me smile. What is contentment if it’s not a few drinks with your mates?
But in the end, it was a question of totally subjective gut feeling. Bravo, if you had spun me a yarn about firing off the camera shutter remotely with a line attached to your toe, I would have swallowed it. But you admit it was your daughter who captured that lovely soft, tender image. I hope you have that framed and on display at home. It deserves it.
Truth is, I cannae resist a snorkelling image and you probably knew that, Mr Mackie. Just looking at that scene brings back all those memories of lying effortlessly in the water; a timeless visitor observing another timeless world. Probably the ultimate in contentment.
So there you have it John. Congratulations! You are the winner. And thanks to you all. 😀
Woo hoo!
Well judged Jan!
Congratulations, Mackie!
Well done, JM! Did you have a body double?
Excellent, well done Mr Mackie, and well deserved. I’m pleased the ships on the horizon got to help you eventually 🙂
Jan, first class judging.
Congrats JM – we await the next challenge…
Thanks Jan. Nicely judged.
Well done, Mr Mackie!
Godmorgen, Janus. May you be forgiven!
Definitely me and definitely my best angle. Particularly pleased with the hair which is actually grey but is clearly still there in a fair quantity.
I know it was me because Mrs M liberally plastered my back with waterproof Factor 50. Unfortunately, my trunks slipped down a fraction and I had a very, very sore bright red strip for a week afterwards.
