An easy one – so there are twice as many recognisable faces than usual!
They have all played Sherlock Holmes – Congratulations Araminta!
My apologies, but I haven’t had time to write biographies for this lot!
Mission Completed – thanks everyone! 😀
Good lord, I know them all 😦
I’ll just post one.
N#3 Michael John Wayne Caine 🙂
Well, they’re all blokes, so there’s obviously one thing that they have in common. 😀
When I recognise more than 1 than you’re quite right, it is a bit easier than the others, because I tried and didn’t get one right in the authors one I’m going to do more than one!
12 Patrick MacNee, ever seen John Steeed speak Afrikaans? The Avengers was dubbed into Afrikaans during the ’70’s
14 Roger Moore
3 My name is Michael Caine 🙂
I’ll try that again, my last comment didn’t come up
N#3 – Michael Caine
Well done Soutie!
You are absolutely right on all three! Any idea what they have in common?
I haven’t seen the Afrikaans version – quite fascinating!
I have been admonished for my comment! Bad Bear!
I’ve also been told what they all have in common, and my reaction was a gobsmacked “Oh!”.
I’m not saying nobody will get it, but it sure isn’t easy. Prove me wrong, Charioteers! 😀
All actors? Soutie took the one I know.
I didn’t hear John Thaw ‘speak’ English until about ’96/7 as Inspector Morse! The Equity ban had just been lifted but we did have Blitspatrolle (flying / lightening squad ) during the ’80’s I suppose, that was The Sweeny, also dubbed into Afrikaans!
Well not knowing who they all are my initial thought was of course actors, Bearsy’s “it sure isn’t easy” confirmed my initial suspicion that actors isn’t it!
I’ll go with them perhaps all being closet gays 😉
No 2 Tom Baker. No 4 John Cleese No 5 Peter Cook.
Christopher
Well – they are all male and they are all actors, but they have something else in common, too 🙂
Soutie
They well might be – but if they were ‘closet gays’ no one would know 🙂
Sheona
Correct! No idea about the connection?
I think they all had books/autobiographies published.
6 is Peter Cushing and 7 Stewart Granger.
Sipu
I would imagine that they did – but that’s not the answer I’m looking for!
9. A young Charlton Heston?
11 is what’sisface….played Dracula and lots of the Hammer horror films…..OFFS!…..Lee……something Lee?
and 15 is Leonard ‘Mr Spock’ Nemoy.
OZ
So No 11 would be Sir Christopher Lee, OZ?
10. The rat-packer everyone forgets; Peter Lawford.
13. Ron Moodie – best ever Fagin.
OZ
Right!
Bravo
Correct!
Sheona – that’s the chap. 🙂
19 is the bloke who played ‘Callan’ back in the day….OfFS!…..Ian Somebody-or-other. Sorry, the brain isn’t engaging today.
OZ
8. Anton Diffring?
16. Peter O’Toole
19. Edward Woodward?
16. Peter O’Toole?
18. Ian Richardson
You might say that I couldn’t possibly comment.
OZ
Need to do a bit better!
Bravo
Right!!
Tocino
Correct on one – Bravo pipped you with Peter!
18 is the bloke who played the Prime Minister in ‘House of Cards’. Another Ian somebody. Right, going to give the brain a proper talking to now.
OZ
Sipu
Right!
Toc – told you it was an Ian 🙂
Sipu – that’s the fellow.
Sob!
OZ
Erm, Boadicea – I think Bravo got Rom Moodie @ comment #16 🙂
OZ
Is 17 Basil Rathbone?
OZ
OZ
Thanks for pointing me to Bravo’s comment – we had to rush out to the Bottle Shop before it closed! No wine with dinner is a crime.
You are right about Basil Rathbone…
Morning, Boadicea. What do they all have in common?
I haven’t a clue so I’ll guess that they were all married to actresses!
Some were – others weren’t. 🙂
Morning. Is #1 John Barrymore? No idea what the connection is, apart from them all having something to do with show business.
FEEG
Right!
Yep! All connected to Show Biz! Keep going…. 🙂
Is it something to do with Sherlock Holmes?
Have they all played the part of Holmes at sometime?
Well done Araminta!
Have they all been married more than once?
Elementary, my dear Boadicea, as Holmes apparently didn’t say. 🙂
There are so many things that actors often fall prey to, such as alcohol abuse, mental health issues and the need of counselling therapy for upbringing issues… any of those?
Oh! Sorry, your reply didn’t show until after I posted 😦
Well done, Araminta. But, Charlton Heston as Sherlock Holmes? Do tell us more.
I stumbled across a web-site listing those who had played Sherlock Holmes in a search for an ‘Old Movie Stars’ site. It seemed too good an opportunity to ignore!
Yes, it does sound a bit unlikely, Sheona but here it is:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101631/
Yes! I was pretty stunned – as was Bearsy!
Will someone please find the last two people in the next hour or so while I watch my dreadful programme… 🙂
20. Eille Norwood
Peter
Brilliant! 🙂
Raymond Massey is the last one.
Sorry Araminta, but no. 🙄
Number 8, I think.
Oh, OK, Bearsy. 😦
I agree that it looks rather like Raymond Massey, Araminta. But you’ll kick yourself when you realise who it actually is! I know I did! 🙂
Hi folks, MrsOldmovie and I are just back from our state visit to the Baltic regions and to celebrate my return to the Chariot I give you Number 8….John Gielgud.
Congratulations OMG!!
Sir John it is. You’re a champion.
Boadicea will be back when her episode of the Kennedys finishes.
Amazing! Still love Basil Rathbone.
Nice one, Boa!
Ah ha. Yes, of course, Bearsy!
OMG. Welcome back!
I must now return to my hanging basket construction! 🙂
Thanks everyone! 🙂
OMG
I wondered where you were – I think you would have got the whole lot and the connection in five minutes flat!
