Sorry to be late, but there was a lunchtime barbie yesterday. The usual suspects arrived at the appropriate time hora portuguesa and fell on the haunch of boar, belly pork, salads and roast potatoes like they had never been fed, ever. The beer, wine and conviviality flowed until late in the evening. Today the NSW and I having cleared up the wreckage she’s gone off for a duty rota at the nursing home, leaving me to publish the results of the Photo Comp, the subject of which was ‘Age’.
In order of posting we have
Boadicea with a 1237 AD tax return. The age cannot be denied.
Then Araminta with an atmospheric view of the Thames and the Royal Naval College.
Rick’s tree, an inspired piece of composition according to the NSW last night.
Cuprum – with a slightly chilling view of Oxford jail.
Christopher’s mosaic – Again, ‘Age’ cannot be denied.
Low Wattage’s vertiginous view of Chepstow Castle.
FEEG – We assumed that was the Parthenon and were impressed with the juxtaposition of the building with the 21st century crane. (OK, we also know you can’t do Photoshop :-D)
Bravo – An inspired composition of an old vine.
Pseu – Very quirky and thoughtful given the subject.
Mr Mackie – Personally, I felt that the statue of Col. Stirling looking over the windfarm was the better composition. 🙂
Soutie’s train – Another great view of the past.
Janh – A wonderful photograph of whatever it is. An old petrol pump??
Sipu – I’ve been there!
I have a confession to make in that the NSW is the only person who now knows about my dark and dirty secret about the ‘Zangado’ alter ego. We judged this together, she having suggested the ‘age’ subject originally. After a couple of bottles of Campo da Gruta we both came up with a tied result, but after much deliberation and some flying fur we agreed the winner should be …………………………………..

Jan, for her atmospheric and beautifully composed shot of whatever the hell it was. Congratulations!

Aye weel, OZ.
Well judged (eventually). I said in my post that my entry was rubbish which is why I did not bother linking it properly to your post for fear of embarrassing myself in the company of the other great photos on display therein.
I still enjoyed the process of getting to where I got to take the rubbish photo so thank you for setting the competition and for sowing the seed for what was a great day out.
Da iawn, janh1. A worthy winner.
Actually, OZ, I am very proficient with Paint Shop Pro, which I prefer to Photoshop, but I did not want to cheat 🙂
Well done Jan!
Congratulations, Jan!
At least on my screen the HTML is not working. I tried to make it look right, God knows, I tried.
Sob!
OZ
Well done Jan, and thanks for an interesting competition, OZ.
Oh dear, you are having a bit of a problem on my screen too. 🙂
It looks as though you re-pasted the post in Visual mode after you had added all the HTML but forget to select HTML mode on your toolbar.
If you want to fix it, one way of doing it would be to go into edit, copy the text of the post and paste in back in HTML mode. There are two tabs on the right-hand side of the tool-bar which switch between the two modes.
…but that wouldn’t sort out the links, though, OZ. 😦
Well done Jan, and thanks to OZ for the work 😀
Jawell, well done Janh, I enjoyed that pic.
Oz, when I opened this post I was tempted to correct your coding, however, it might have entailed a complete rewrite with me eventually ending up the winner!
So, I thought it best not to get involved 😉
Well done Jan…
… and thanks OZ. I had assumed that the ‘celebration’ had lasted somewhat longer than anticipated.
I also thought to correct your post – but I’ve left it to Bearsy to do…
🙂
Corrected.
Oh! Just back from Hay and popped in to take a quick shuftie and oh blimey, I won something!! Thanks for the congrats everyone 🙂
Made up with this OZ, thanks, but i don’t really deserve it. Mine was a late and casual entry – I just hoped someone would have a specialist interest in ancient petrol pumps. It can be seen on the walk from Sudeley Castle grounds (Winchcombe) to Spoonley Woods Roman Villa (remains of).
Nice one, Jan, well done! 🙂
Cheers, Bearsy, sir. I did try, bonest.
OZ
Jan – Don’t let the photo comp go the same way as the pome and creative writing comps.
OZ
Well done Jan. 🙂
I am rather sad that the creative writing and poem comps have stopped.
So am I Claire, but there were no entries for the last competition in either category. 😦
We will see if anyone wants to participate in your Autumn…
Has to get the prize for the best comment of the week 🙂 🙂 🙂
Or the best typo … ?
Oh gugger! 😀
OZ
You could combine the two; poetry and creative writing competitions. Having said that, I am hardly in a position to say that since I wasn’t exactly forthcoming with entries…
OZ 🙂
LOL here at my big hairy sheep face right up there on the front page. For “petrol pump” photo. Jeez. That has to be my best effort at going down in history!! Excellent.
Sorry folks gave up on lappie last night after blue screen thingy happened. Seems to be ok today though.
So, next competition. Theme “Joy” deadline? I dunno. What’s usual? 31st June? Do people want a couple of weeks to keep things lively or a whole month? Answers below please… 🙂
Janh
I prefer the photo comp to be fortnightly, If I hadn’t already awarded OZ the ‘comment of the week’ your ’31st June’ would have been a great contender 😉
We do need a separate post from you though, so that members can add pictures to the new thread.
Yup, I agree with Soutie. The theme of ‘Joy’ is excellent and needs a fresh post, if only to stop me drooling over the sheep. End of June (thirty days hath September, April, JUNE and November…) would be good.
OZ
Congratulations Jan.
