What a day out, but where were we?

We started off in the Kent countryside (your clue) saw a man fishing through the trees then a serpent coming out of the trees. We visited Australia and saw Ayres Rock, Africa, South America, North America (note the natives) Spotted a health and safety cactus (see the corks) and then we cae across Zeus with Europa on his back (Zeus is the white bull).

So where were we

  1. Howzit Rick

I’ll never forget my 1st visit to a pineapple farm, the fact that pineapples grew above the ground on stalks amazed me (okay, it was a long time ago!)

The Bathhurst area is a quick 150km up the road from me (east, towards Durban), the farms are enormous and the harvest colossal, 10 ton tippers queuing up to drive the crop to the processing plants.

Bathurst has a giant pineapple, I’ll let them explain…

It stands 16.7m high and has 3 floors. It is constructed out of a fibreglass outer skin covering a steel and concrete superstructure
The ground floor has a gift shop full of pineapple goodies such as jams and chutneys, locally made pottery and puzzles as well as t-shirts and hats to name but a few of the items for sale ideal for overseas and local tourists looking for that small gift to take home!
The 1st floor has tourist information and static displays of the Pineapple Story. A must visit for kids doing school projects
The 2nd floor has a continuous DVD on the Eastern Cape pineapple industry and leads up to the observation deck with magnificent 360°views over rolling farm lands to the Indian Ocean The 1st floor has tourist information and static displays of the Pineapple Story. So, I’ll venture img 1100 somewhere near me, Eastern Cape, South Africa

  2. Interesting place, Rick! Would never have guessed a castle! Especially like the baobab tree sculpture and the bull rampaging bull 🙂

Never even heard of pineapple jam before, Soutie. I wonder why it’s not available here?

  3. Here’s the Aussie “Big Pineapple”, about 40 minutes up the track from where we live –

There are many varieties of Pineapple jam made all over the world. Here’s a sample –

  4. Oh – just found that Hartley’s jam makes pineapple! What a turn-up. Doubt it is a patch on yours, Bearsy.
