  1. Super photographs Rick. Try increasing your shutter speed to freeze the moving birds. Set camera to shutter priority – (TV) on Canon cameras, that should do the trick.

  2. Thanks Rick. Never been to Dungeness, only heard about its reputation – teeming with wildlife!!
Bit rusty on my bird ID but is that a Dartford Warbler? Not sure of the black-capped finchy thing – a brambling mebbe?

  3. Many a happy time spent training in Lydd, a bit windswept, but Istill haven’t started glowing so it can’t be that nuclear!

    Great pics 😀

  4. Thanks Val, I did have it on TV but the little blighters were too fast for me, as soon as they saw the lens they were off, probably to get a super injunction against me releasing the photos to the press. 🙂 I also had it on rapid shot so I would get a series of shots and keep the best.

I’m glad you confirm that I had it on the right setting though, so thanks and any other tips always welcome.

  5. That’s the trouble Rick, birds won’t keep still for a second, so its a bit, click and hope.

A good practice with shutter speed is to take lots shots of a dripping tap. Get your camera set on a tripod or firm surface, set the camera to TV, and increase the shutter speed with each series of shots, until you achieve a good freeze shot. Have the tap dripping so you can see each of the drips clearly.

    Tin City?

  7. Covered myself in glory once in Tin City. Missed a target completely from 5 metres. With a sawn-off!

    Nice shots, Rick.

  8. Thanks Val, I will dig out the old tripod and give that a go. The family will probably be convinced I am off my trolley.

CoB yes it is a strange place, I understand you can’t buy a place there (thought they are shacks) for love or money, they get handed down through the family and the residents either say yes or no to you. Maybe due to the radiation fall out from the power station.

  9. Interesting, Rick and some nice shots.

I haven’t cracked this bird photography either; I think I need a lot more expertise and a better camera; not to mention loads of patience.

  10. Need a bit more than that, Araminta. The experts all turn up at the wildfowl trust at Slimbridge with amazing cameras attached to telescopes! I can’t compete so have given up trying 🙂

  11. I know, Jan, it’s really depressing, but one day… 😉

Or perhaps not, and think I’ve left it too late to catch up, or perhaps I’m not that obsessive.

    Tin City?

Yes indeed Toc. Interestingly in more recent years they have started to change it from a council estate in NI to an arab town complete with Mosque and arabic graffiti…..I wonder why?! One suspects they may need to return it to its previous incarnation soon!
