My brief today was to find a way to secure our collection tins, (we’ve just been given 400) to counters in bars, supermarkets, wholesale shops well anywhere actually.
It’s a pretty simple operation, I had a meeting with a few mates, we’re going to get the wire and such donated and we reckon that if we take a table over at one of our local sports bars we’ll get the job done in an afternoon.
The tin you see on the left is my sample, we used it to discuss drill bit sizes and other silly requirements.
It’s full!
Unbelievably as we were sitting at our table people kept coming up and putting money into it, one lady had no change so folded a ten rand note and slid it through the slot!
Just to change the subject…
Tonight’s our music trivia fundraiser, usually 15 tables of 8 at R65.00 per head, we’ve sold 18 tables, no idea where we are going to put everybody but who cares?
I got a message this morning to go down to one of our supermarket warehouses and collect 17 pockets of potatoes (10kg per bag) what for you may ask, we’re giving them out tonight as prizes!
Is that cool or what?
Win a sack of potatoes? Woo Hoo!
I remember the friday darts/dominoes/pool night up in Guardbridge near St Andrews. The winner across all three demanding disciplines took home a whole steak pie. ๐
Ha ha Furry, I remember playing darts at my dad’s club up in Benoni (Jhb), 1st prize a chicken (uncooked) runner up 6 eggs!

Spud-u-Like!
Security wise, seemples. Build a microswitch into the base of each tin. Then attach one end to the national grid. Some scrupless, light fingered, cutpurse lifts the tin and fssssssst. Thieving li’l shit won’t do it again. ๐
Seriously though Soutie, I wish you the very best of luck. It seems the folk around you are generous and the cause is good, so here’s to you. ๐
At about 4 O’clock I’d put my ‘sample tin’ back into the car, about half an hour later some guy who I don’t know came up to me and asked where it was, he then made me go get it and he and his pals continued to fill it and pass it round!
Ja, most people have big hearts, you just have to know how to unlock them!
By the way, I had no intention of fundraising today, I generally don’t get involved unless we’re talking big numbers (thousands) but it’s silly things like this, the small things that makes what I do so worthwhile.
Big lotto here tonight, if I win it I may just become a full time fundraiser ๐
Good on yer, Soutie. Best of luck with the events, which I am sure will be a great success.
OZ
Morning OZ, thank you, it was indeed a success, better than we anticipated.
Missed the lotto (not even 3 numbers :()
Glad it went well, Soutie. There’ll be mashed potatoes all round tonight! ๐
