He was paid $200,000 to promote Fieldforce, which did environmental audits of homes under the Government’s “green loans” scheme, which has since collapsed and been scrapped as useless and grotesquely expensive.
He also invested in Geodynamics, a company trying to exploit geothermal power with what Flannery claimed was “relatively straightforward” technology — pumping water on to hot rocks deep underground at Innamincka to produce steam for delightfully “green” power.
Straightforward? Geodynamics had to plug three of its shafts after an explosion, has been flooded by rains Flannery didn’t predict and is now years behind schedule with its share price in a decline too deep to hide.
The only thing “straightforward” about this troubled project was the $90 million grant Geodynamics extracted from the gullible Rudd government, which must have bought Flannery’s spin that geothermal power could be the power of our future.
He is now Australia’s $180,000-a-year Climate Commissioner – lucky, lucky you!

Ha! The Septics have got Australia beat! They elect someone with even less experience, and even more inept, to the presidency!
Thanks for this Bravo – this has cheered me up no end!
Not the appointment of this idiot at $180,000 dollars, needless to say, but the fact that, finally, a newspaper has said it how it is:
Tim Bloody Flannery is one of our Mad Mullahs of the Church of AGW and Gore.
Andrew Bolt, who wrote the article, is a tabloid journalist who is regularly sued for defamation for telling the truth that “everybody knows but dare not say” about left-wing, greenie, and aboriginal shibboleths.
If you want another example of the idiocy of contemporary Aussie politics, have a look at Peter Garrett, previously lead singer of Midnight Oil (great music), who was fast-tracked into becoming an MP and immediately made the Minister for Silly Walks … losing the country millions by setting up a scheme for roof insulation which killed several people.
As a contrast, at the same election, Maxine McKew, an award winning journo, stood and defeated Howard in his own electorate, but was subsequently ignored by the Labor Party, and pushed to the back to lose the seat in the next election. She has now faded without trace – a clever woman with her head screwed on the right way, but not fond of political spin tactics.
I wouldn’t dare comment on Christopher’s remarks on POTUS, lest I be accused of naughty things in Sweden and suffer rendition by Gillard to the Land of the Torturers. 😀
Seems your national broadcaster is as biased as the beeb – free advertising for Panasonic?
Seems they sponsor his job at Universtity.

I suppose I should mention Neil Kinnock…
Bearsy: the USA does not torture anyone. It simply performs unconventional interrogation techniques.
Ah! That’s all right then. 🙄
