‘Hatching’ Easter eggs

Autism speak

I thought that I’d give you a little insight as to the workings of an autistic child’s mind.

We had Easter eggs this week, similar to the ones pictured left, you know the ones, chocolate on the inside with a hard white coating.

Well, these were hard, impossible for a child to crack with their jaw, after a couple of tries the first child held his egg in his hand and banged it against the table, good idea, bad idea, the egg shattered into hundreds of pieces and scattered all over the floor!

Quick as a flash, the second child approached me with her egg and said “Uncle Soutie, would you hatch it for me?”

  1. I really do think that we have much to learn from Autistic Children, there are things happening inside their minds that could unlock many secrets and although I dislike the term and some of the dictionary definitions, the capabilities of Idiot Savants defy explanation and must be studied more. That is not to suggest that they are fit only for study, they are not, they are people dealing the hand they have been dealt by fate and I’m sure they could teach us much.
Sorry to go off topic a bit Soutie.

  2. Hee hee 🙂 and a very good Good Friday to all of you.

I thought that you would enjoy this one (I’ve loads of them,) I’ll post more over time.

Yesterday I mentioned this story to a young part time volunteer care worker that I know, she has helped out at Quest School in the past, she clutched my arm and almost burst into tears!
