  1. This sort of daft question has always annoyed me. Clearly that’s my problem, because I know that many people love this sort of mental exercise. A crossword I’m happy with, but the idea of working out why three guys on a cruise want to get together when none of them speak the others’ language leaves me cold.

Wake me up when somebody explains what it’s all about 😦

  2. G’day Soutie, mate.
Now don’t go getting your knickers in a twist, it’s just a comment, that’s all. I’m sure everyone else will be greatly intrigued and will enjoy solving your conundrum. I said it was my problem, didn’t I? 😀

  3. Augusta, Georgia, USA. Well done Charl, poor old Rory, nice work Jap amateur. I stayed up watching it, wish I could play there myself!

  4. The cabin is a place where the local TV network interview the winner and leasding amateur and the the previous winner gives the new champion the Green Jacket.

It is just a small wooden cabin that is attached to the main clubhouse. 😀

  5. Bearsy,

    A swift google.

    “Eisenhower Cabin.
One of ten cabins on the Augusta National property, it was built by the club’s membership for member Dwight D. Eisenhower after his election as President of the United States. The cabin was built according to Secret Service security guidelines, and is adorned by an eagle located above the front porch.”

A cabin is another name for a hut or shack as much as a berth on board ship chum.

    Woo Hoo Soutie!

You are in Georgia! Or did you porky pie in your original statement.

  6. Ferret :

    Woo Hoo Soutie!

You are in Georgia! Or did you porky pie in your original statement.

Ha ha, woo hoo indeed! It all played out at about 1:15am my time in my lounge 😉

  7. Ah Soutie,

You and severel million watched them enter then. 🙂

    Bearsy,

I am with you on this one, absolutely scooby doo’less when it comes to matters of golf. Waste of a good walk IMHO. Coupled with the fact that it is so elitist in England, I choose to ignore it.

  8. Charl Schwartzel, a 26 year old SA golfer, 6 times winner on the European tour, son of a club pro, a good golfer with prominent teeth!

  9. Elitist Ferret? Crickey, you should see the uneducated unwashed idiots playing in jeans and a T-shirt on your local council owned municipal course!

  10. Yes Cuprum,

I see them, I also see the elitist twits pointing and shaking their heads wondering why such sub-class pond life has been allowed to foul their lawn.

I used to play the Old Course for 2 quid when we had a St Andrews postcode. Not very good if truth be told. Glenrothes was a much better course and only 50p.

  11. You’re a lucky man Ferret, as a mad passionate golfer with a 11 handcap, I’d love to play at St Andrews but I can’t afford it!

I pay £400 a year for membership at my club, a bargain if you work it out per round as I play at least once a week.

Yes, some old fogies can be snobby, but in the 20 years I’ve been playing I’ve seen a big shift change in attitudes, most clubs now are all embracing. There are of course several stuffy ones left, I’ve played a few and won’t go back if I don’t feel welcome. I was once told in no uncertain terms to tuck my shirt in at one particular club, I told him to learn how to mend pitch marks as I had follwed him round the course. He went bright red with anger, went and told the club secretary who asked me to leave. I pointed out that I was a member and had every right to be there and made sure I moved clubs at the earliest opportunity.

Where I am now is full of all sorts, mostly teenagers it seems at times, but all respect the certain codes of behaviour and attire as part of the tradition and self discipline of the sport.

  12. Cuprum,

Horses for courses innit. There are many clubs around me where you must be invited to join, and the fees are well into the 1000s per year, specifically to deter a certain type from getting ideas. Its all very elitist to me.

Personally I don’t see a problem with folk playing golf in shorts and tee shirt if they want to.

For me a handicap was picking up the clubs in the first place.

  13. And there I was thinking the cabin was that li’ ol’ shack known as the UN building in New York!
