Mile zero, visibility zero, Norfolk Virginia.

Got here yesterday in teeming rain from Coinjock, the last 50 miles were a challenge, five low bridges and one lock, rained all day and windy too.

Spent the night on anchor opposite the “Largest Warship ever built” USS Wisconsin, that’s her but sticking out from the slip in the mist (sorry about the picture quality, the weather is worse than it looks).

We came past a lot of navy construction, including a pair of BAE floating dry docks with destroyers in.

Finally we are nestled in a marina dock opposite the Hospital for tonight, if the weather lifts, we will try the Bay tomorrow. It’s all open water for the first 50 miles or so (about 190 miles to run)

  1. Brilliant LW, absolutely brilliant. Just spent a happy half hour reading up on the Wisconsin (sister to the more famous Missouri.) Hard to believe that they both saw service during Desert Shield.

Still no name on the Bow of ‘our’ boat?
