Into South Carolina

Into South Carolina today, across the Savannah River into Beaufort and through one of the remaining Bascule bridges on the waterway. The Savannah is a major maritime highway and we crossed between an outgoing cargo ship

and ducked into the swamp ahead of an incoming car carrier.

Only one more picture today, another “What is it”. Yes , it’s an island that all US Marines remember “fondly?”

Tonight we are at the confluence of the Ashapoo and Coosaw Rivers (Google Earth is always available)

Tomorrow we should be in Charleston, South Carolina one of my most favorite places.

  1. Howzit LW

Nice pics, I’ve been googling furiously (actually only once, I got it first time :)) it’s Paris Hilton’s private estate 😉

  2. The cargo ship is actually a tanker. Although you could say that oil or liquid is just cargo, us nautical types make a distinction between cargo ships and tankers.

  3. I guess it’s a training facility where the grunts get their feet wet for the first time.
