“My nickname of ‘Slowhand’ came from Giorgio Gomelsky. He coined it as a good pun. He kept saying I was a fast player, so he put together the slow handclap phrase into Slowhand as a play on words”

Bearsy, the service here is to be cherished. 🙂
Does that make me a racist or a bigot? 😕
Definitely. 😮
Eric used to break so many strings, and he took so long putting a new one on his geetar, they dubbed him ‘Slow hand’….well worth the wait though.
Sorry Val, nice idea, but wrong. 😦
Go on then Bearsy, why then?
Perhaps Bearsy it might be better not to believe everything Wiki says.
As an avid admirer of Eric, and a fan club member, Eric actually explained how his nickname came about, he confessed in reality, it was his slowness to change guitar strings when they broke, the audience would give him a slow hand clap, hence the name stuck.

Woo Hoo hang on Val,
I’m off to get OZ, a good indian take away and plenty of beer.
When we are comfy, you can start round 2.
If we are talking Knopf choons then I feel I have to play the card that trumps them all.
One of many first-rate tracks1
Fan-bloody-tastic Mr Ferret, wonderful.
Yoo hoo, Ferret. I’ll bring the beer and even the curry (Cave made) if you like, with not a jar of Patak’s or packet of Sharwood’s anywhere near it. Just say which, (lamb, chicken, goat, beef, fish or veggie), preferred side dishes and choice of rice and breads.
Tell you something. If Knopf ever got together with Tull we’d probably have to resurrect you.
OZ
It is always possible that you’re correct Val, but I doubt it. I suggest you read the entire paragraph from which I quoted – you will find that you are arguing with Eric’s official biographer.
But I’m not going to argue with you; I’ll ask him next time I bump into him.
You’re right – I did like it!
OOOH, YES YES YES, lovely Mr Zen.
Always wondered, why is Eric dubbed ‘Slowhand’?
