  1. The apology should come from Blair, Bush and our own PM, Howard. We’ll wait ’till Hell freezes over before any of that unholy trio gives one.

  2. Hi zen. I appreciate that this may well not matter to you, but it does to me. I just can not help myself.

I hate Blair with an undying passion and always will.

But, I’m not certain that this is Hemingway whatever google says. Can’t find where he said it but it seems quite clear to me that if he did, he was paraphrasing St Thomas of Aquinas at Question 40 of ‘Summa Theologica’ Part II-II on the subject of ‘War’ and in answer to the first point of enquiry – ‘Whether some kind of war is lawful?’

So, with heavy cutting of text, ‘In order for a war to be just, three things are necessary. First, the authority of the sovereign by whose command the war is to be waged. Secondly, a just cause is required, namely that those who are attacked, should be attacked because they deserve it on account of some fault. Thirdly, it is necessary that the belligerents should have a rightful intention, so that they intend the advancement of good, or the avoidance of evil.’

However much of a scumbag Blair undoubtedly is, the invasion of Iraq passes all three tests of what Tommy Boy wrote, so far as I am concerned.

Parliament voted for it, Saddam Hussein was an evil sod and I believe that Blair and Bush sincerely intended the ‘advancement of good’.

So, I don’t agree with you but thanks for a happy hour researching your quote. I know that I am probably a sad soul, but this sort of exercise really does help me to keep my personal intellectual rigour up to some sort of acceptable standard.

  3. It seems that every time I use a quotation in haste I am picked up on it – fair enough. Further research does not support my original source. However, I fully support the sentiment. The war was fought on a lie. Parliament was misled by the ‘dodgy’ dossier.

Don’t worry about it Zen. As my father would have said, “It gives them something to do and keeps them off street corners.: 🙂

  5. I wonder what b liar thinks in the wee small hours when he awakens from a fitfull sleep? Does he think of what he has done to our country by forcing his failed experiment in multiculturalism upon us, does he toss and turn when he thinks of the lives wasted just so that he could play big swinging dicks with dubbya, does he pick up on the waves of hatred that flow in his direction from those most affected by his grinning, sweaty false persona, ie, all of us. Or does he just turn over, grinning to himself as he counts his cash in his head, not giving a flying toss about anyone except himself.

  6. They actually believe they did a good job, it beggars belief.

Two Jags was on Top Gear a few weeks back and he still maintained his policies were right and his gubmint did no wrong. With that kind of self delusion even Dr Shipman would sleep like an innocent.

  7. Zen,

Clarkson was kissing his ample rump. He was obviously warned off by the Beeb.

    Nym,

Hardly the behaviour expected from a peer of the realm I say. Nor is appearing in a crappy advert for some car insurance website. Personally I expect members of the HOL to act with a certain level of decorum.

  8. Zen,

Regular Clarkson readers know very well Jezzas contempt for Two Jags. It must’ve been agony to keep himself in check. I suppose after the Mexico nonsense, the DG is keeping a short leash.
