Winner of the Poetry Competition!

The Poll for the Poetry Competition is now closed.

Many thanks to those who voted.

I’m not going to give a ‘critique’ of the various entries – mainly because I know nothing about poetry in any shape or form!

Araminta

Unfortunately, Araminta wrote only one verse rather than the stipulated three.

Cold Water John (1) and Cold Water John (2)

Cold Water John wrote only two verses. Nonetheless, image of Prescott in a Westcot had me chuckling.

Christopher (1) and Christopher (2)

I particularly loved the description of Amy Whitehouse – “with somewhat less sense than a mouse”. Notwithstanding that I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment, she’s rich and I’m not!

Claire

Claire’s six entries were all good, and I, especially, enjoyed the dig at John Elton.

O Zangado

Well done Oz, for writing so eloquently about our Charioteers.

Soutie

Soutie! I was certainly tempted to give you the prize because of the verse about Bearsy.

However in the end, it came down to a choice between:

Peter (1) and Peter (2)

and

Low Wattage

Both extremely good. But, in the end, I decided to award the prize – if one can consider setting the next competition a prize (!) – to

Low Wattage.

  1. Well done LW, congrats and thanks to Boa for stepping in to the judges shoes.

I will however take comfort from the fact that I polled the most votes 🙂 (okay, I know only 8 voted and my 3 don’t constitute a majority but I don’t care 😉 )

  2. Thanks Boa, sorry Soutie, democracy is not what it was, and thank you all, I’m pleased and flattered. I will try to post some suggestions for the sixth today.

Peter: “It has been a damned nice thing – the nearest run thing you ever saw in your life”
and he added “By God I do not think it would have been done IF I HAD I NOT BEEN THERE” (My capitals)

  3. Well done Low Wattage.
Boadicea – thanks for the comment and for judging.
This is hardly the place – and apologies for that too – but can I come back?

  4. Claire

I thought you were here. But I’ve just checked and you weren’t – so I’ve sorted it and you are now! I hope you understand what I mean!

    🙂
