Her old installation disc is not compatible with Windows 7. Virgin are sending her the gismo to rectify it, but it will take a few days before we see her here again.

I’m a little confused here. I don’t want to ask too many questions – in case I get asked too many in return!
I found Windows 7 to be soooo user-friendly that I managed to install all my weird programs without have to ask ‘The Bear’ for any help whatsoever…
If you’re looking Val – Good Luck! And we’ll see you soon!
Boa, I think it is Virgin that is causing the hiatus.
Boa: I too found 7 to be a refreshing change from the usual Microsoft detritus.
Wot? Val is a virgin? She’s blonde for Heaven’s sake. Or am I missing something? 🙂

Whatr has Virgin got to do with Windows 7? – you have lost me…
LW
One of the most useful things I learnt from MyT was that Vista was a major disaster. When I upgraded my lap-top a few years back I insisted on having XP installed.
I was extremely wary of Windows 7, and waited until Bearsy had upgraded before I took the plunge. So far, touch wood and whistle, I’m well pleased with it. Especially as it seems to cope with all my programs, some of which are far too pricey to upgrade.
Boa: I migrated directly from XP to 7, I did buy one Vista machine but quickly reverted it to XP. I too have a lot of specialist (read expensive) software and was very happy with XP and in general the transition to 7. One of the few things 7 does not support is Outlook Express, which I had used for years for emails, I now use Mozilla Thunderbird which accepted all my email archives, address books etc. (and is free).
I’m using Live Mail. It’s a bit of a nuisance that I can’t import all my old e-mails, but I keep too many anyway and I can access them if I need to.
My only problem was with my scanner and that still annoys me that Canon doesn’t provide a compatible driver.
I took one look at Microsoft’s new Office suite and gave it a miss – the day I can’t run my old version is the day I’ll switch to OpenOffice.
Spelling corrected – Boadicea
LW – Have you tried Windows LiveMail? It’s free, does everything that Outlook used to do, better, and Boadicea can understand it, which is a big plus. 🙂
I solved the archive problem with MailStore.
… for the umpteenth time, Boadicea, it’s Canon, with ONE ‘N’. Grr! 😎
Eat the Apple stuff the rest. Dim problems. 🙂
Boa: re Office I am still with Office 2000 and happy.
Bearsy: I did try Live Mail but could not stream my OE archives across and if Boa’s understanding is a criteria then it may well be beyond my ability to do so.
Dim Cymraeg, Toc. 😦
Bearsy @ #10. Brave (correct, but very foolish) boy! I, on the other hand, know better and am off to the very deepest recesses of The Cave before the wrath of the Iceni descends. You’re on your own, sunshine. 🙂

OZ: Your #4, I think she’s just pretending to be one, or the other, or …… never mind.
