Salute.

Every now and then, we score one for the good guys:

A retired Indian Gorkha soldier recently revisited those glory days when he thwarted 40 robbers, killing three of them and injuring eight others, with his khukuri during a train journey. He is in line to receive three gallantry awards from the Indian government.

“They started snatching jewelry, cell phones, cash, laptops and other belongings from the passengers,” Shrestha recalled. The soldier had somehow remained a silent spectator amidst the melee, but not for long. He had had enough when the robbers stripped an 18-year-old girl sitting next to him and tried to rape her right in front of her parents. He then took out his khukuri and took on the robbers.

“The girl cried for help, saying ´You are a soldier, please save a sister´,” Shrestha recalled. “I prevented her from being raped, thinking of her as my own sister,” he added. He took one of the robbers under control and then started to attack the others. He said the rest of the robbers fled after he killed three of them with his khukuri and injured eight others.

Story.

  1. Bearsy, you’re probably right. Never mind 40 – 1 odds and preventing a rape, criminals have yooman rites, doncherno?

In the real world, however, let’s hear it for Bishnu Shrestha!

  2. Levent, you are acting like a dick-head. Clearly, you know little of Ghurkhas and less about Tibet.

btw. It’s my blog and you can leave the comments where they are, thanks. Perhaps, you might think twice before posting such crap next time.

  3. Bravo,

It was a “what-if” sort of comment, like your two did above. Pity you have lost your sense of humour, and became into this.

    The joke inspired was:
A man is taking a walk in Central park in New York. Suddenly he sees a little girl being attacked by a pit bull dog. He runs over and starts fighting with the dog. He succeeds in killing the dog and saving the girl’s life. A policeman who was watching the scene walks over and says: “You are a hero,” tomorrow you can read it in all the newspapers: “Brave New Yorker saves the life of little girl.” The man says: “But I am not a New Yorker!” “Oh, then it will say in newspapers in the morning: Brave American saves life of little girl” – the policeman answers. “But I am not an American!” – says the man. “Oh, what are you then?” The man says: “I am a Saudi!” Then next day the newspapers say: “Islamic extremist kills innocent American dog.”

  4. Lots of things change my view about lots of things. Your comments had SFA to do with the subject of this post and this last comment has even less relevance. Hint. When you’re in a hole, stop digging.

  5. It always gladdens the vigilante section of my heart to read of these occasions. There was a European working in the administration side of the Bahrain Private Hospital who was ex-SAS. Three blokes attempted to mug him in London when he was home on leave. He put two of them in hospital for a prolonged period, and the third one fled. The police wanted to charge him with GBH…

  6. These thugs were criminals and it doesn’t matter whether they were Muslim, Hindu, Sikh or whatever, though I doubt they were Jains or Buddhists. They got what they deserved.
