She is a talkative beast at the best of times – she always answers when addressed, and she has learned that I can’t hear the top of her vocal range, so, these days, I don’t get the silent miaows that she used to try on when she was younger.
Recently, though, she has started squeaking and mewing when she is asleep. I have never seen this in a cat before, though we are, I’m sure, all familiar with dogs chasing rabbits, or maybe being chased by rabbits, depending on the whimpering, in their sleep. Anyone else seen this?
Never had a cat!
Nia (JR) talks to me in bed if I touch her, sweet little mumbling sounds otherwise remarkably silent.
Farts, moans, snorts and snores are the preserve of spousal unit who is generally banned from bed as being too noisy and gallumphing for us girls!
I vaguely remember the cat I had many years ago twitching and squeaking in her sleep – I presumed she was ‘dreaming’ of mice!
Our late, lamented ginger puss used to twitch and make the odd little sounds he made when focussing on birds when awake in his sleep as well. The paw movements were quite distinctive – reaching out to something. Presumably chasing birds and mice in his dreams.
I had six cats once, now I have eight thanks to my younger daughter 😦
One snores in her sleep and another makes all sorts of funny noises when sleeping as well, it meas they are feeling safe and content, same thing when they roll on their backs and sleep with their legs up in the air.
Bravo – Firstly, until Das Fürballen took up residence I never realised that cats fart – frequently. Secondly, I saw a cartoon once with a doting couple looking down on their sleeping, twitching dog in his basket and saying, “Aw, sweeeet! He’s dreaming about chasing rabbits”. The thought bubble from the dreaming dog, however, showed him engaged in, erm, sexual congress with the French poodle next door.
