The Australian press is quite complimentary about the wee chap, and definitely supportive of his second attempt at an Australian Grand Slam title. ย I’m sure the crowd at the Rod Laver Arena will be barracking for him tomorrow.

This could be the making of him. I’ll be watching with interest. ๐
I thought the crowd were very even-handed at the semi-final, which is always good to see. I am looking forward to tomorrow’s match with some trepidation.
lways the bridesmaid… ๐ฆ
Perhaps he should consider a move to Egypt? It would appear that they canโt get anything over the net either. ๐
Commiserations Sheona. ๐ฆ
Good evening Sheona,
Murray just seems to be missing that extra yard that separates the good from the great. Again, today, he was found wanting. Now you canโt be over the hill at 23 and thereโs plenty of time for him to have other Grand Slam opportunities. Though, change is needed somewhere. Maybe he should consider getting himself a new coach. Did I ever tell you I was school tennis Champion?
It’s just as well JM and I were prepared for our fellow countryman to lose. Thank you for your commiserations. I thought Djokovic played superbly.
I gather Murray has been doing without a coach for a few months now, royalist. Perhaps Mum is not enough. As you say, he seems to lack the killer instinct. Odd, for a Scot. I loved tennis at school and university, but never got to the giddy heights you did. It was always just fun for me. Now let’s see how Scotland do in the Six Nations next weekend!
Hello again Sheona,
You might not know that I reside in the little hamlet that is Glasgow. To give you a clue as to what side of the city Iโm in, Iโll tell you this. Andy might have lost because he was wearing green, if he were wearing blue, on the other hand…
I donโt watch a lot of tennis as it is all a power game nowadays. I loved the halcyon days of Borg, Connors, McEnroe and Lendl. Power and subtlety. I still play the game during the summer and my groundstrokes are still not too bad.
Oh yeah, umm, donโt mention rugby. Cheers. ๐
Glasgow is my birthplace and “smiles better”. I didn’t like Andy’s green at all, and of course Novak did have blue in his outfit!
Have you ever watched any of the Seniors tournaments, where you can still see at least Borg and McEnroe and others playing? (Not Connors or Lendl though.) They still don’t take prisoners, those guys.
Sheona, I’ve been here all my life and still use old words and phrases. Planked being a particular favourite.
I watched a few seniors games years ago. Amazing to think they are still playing. I preferred Borg to McEnroe and loved Borg’s Donnay wooden (remember them) racquet. Borg’s racquet had a long handle that went up most of the frame. Obviously, this was to give him grip to launch his fierce double-handed backhands. For two reasons I could not get Bjorn’s bat.
A) They were not available in the sports shops.
B) I couldn’t afford one anyway.
Using an innovative mind I got round the problem. I wrapped black insulating tape round the frame of my bat. This tape was always coming loose and I had to re-wrap a few times. God, I loved that bat.
