I couldn’t resist this one, which accompanied an article in which a resident of Goodna swore that he’d seen two sharks swimming down the High Street. I don’t believe a word of it! Goodna must be around 40kms from the sea, by road or by river; shorter by air, but even our sharks don’t fly. 😆
I’ve been reading about “bull sharks”, and it appears that I may be wrong to disbelieve the Goodna guy. Apparently they love coming inland, and there have been many observations of them swimming up the Mississippi and other rivers in the USA, for great distances.
That’s right Bearsy, not only have they been seen all over the Qld. flood areas they have also been photographed. Problem is now that they are inland they cannot return to the sea, something about sharks being able to slowly go from salt water to fresh water but not the other way around.
You rivers and estuaries will be fairly dangerous to go swimming in for a while 😦
Hello Bearsy
Just seen something new, wanted to bring to your attention.
While having a look at “Stats for: Dewani extradition hearing” we have three “syndicated views”
1st time I’ve seen it.
I have no idea where this is, but I would venture to suggest that the zoning regulations which allowed houses to be built here may have been in error when, (or, if,) potential flood levels were considered.
Soutie – Sorry, but I don’t know how to access the stats for a particular post. 😦
Bravo – Yes, of course you are right, but that’s an enormously complicated social and political question which would take a long time to explore. Or was it merely a wry observation?
If you hover your mouse over the picture, you’ll see that it’s labelled as “Ipswich, QLD”.
Soutie – Update – I’ve found it! The answer is that they are views through an RSS feed. Here is the WordPress Support page that is pointed to by an answer on a Forum –

I’m afraid I don’t even begin to understand what it means, my IQ has taken a dive south recently. Sorry. 😥
Ha ha 🙂 ,it’s of no consequence whatsoever! Just something ‘different’ that I’d noticed!
I had a look on the help pages it’s something to do with RSS feeds and the like, after 10 minutes reading I was non the wiser 😦
Sorry, I was editing my answer while you were answering the unedited version. Apologies!
Just as a matter of passing interest, my sister lives in Mackay – a long way from the flood-affected area, I know.
Nice place, though. Have you visited?
Bravo22 – There is no land east of the Great Dividing range that isn’t prone to flooding, and it runs North to South from Queensland all the way to Victoria … exactly where the floods are.
Bearsy – yep, drove up from Sydney and met my Sister there then on to Moranbah where she was living with her then husband who worked in the mines.
That was quite a drive, Bravo. Did you enjoy the journey?
Quite a drive indeed – it was OK on the way out, but the drive back to Sydney was a major pain 😦
One way on those long trips is quite long enough, Bravo.
Incredible photo
I wonder how many of the properties flooded were to this depth? I have seen very few pics like this most have been up to about 4′ off the ground.
