All it took was a bit of time.
Many nations have now pledged support to Australia – here’s a good article from the SMH – even Indonesia has offered $1m in aid. I don’t believe I’ve ever been so glad to be proved wrong! 😀

I am glad to hear it. I am also glad to hear that things do not appear to be quite as bad as was anticipated, though I am still staggered that this flood does not match that of 1974. Apparently! Anyway, it looks as though things are getting better, but you still have a long way to go. The clean up is going to be touch. Best of luck to you all.
tough, not touch.
It would seem that the (thankful!) lack of rain over the last 36 hours played a big part in ameliorating the flood levels.
Good, I’m pleased to hear it.
These things do take time, I suppose but it’s now headlines worldwide, so I’m not surprised by the generous response.
Good evening Bearsy and Boa.
Really glad to read that the peak has passed. Personally relieved that both you and my Aussie brother-in-law and family have come through without being flooded.
As Sipu says, Queensland will have long months or years ahead of it before the physical ravages are repaired. My deepest sympathies for those who have suffered even more by losing family members or friends in this terrible tragedy.
Good to see that the international offers of help are now coming in.
Just picked this up:

Well now we all know who to blame!!
Good to hear that there has been a response.
I should hope so too. No matter how modern and advanced the country, this is still flooding and damage on a truly devastating scale. Can’t imagine the level of anxiety going on among the evacuated Brisbane folk today – not knowing if they will have a home to return to.
Jan, yes. Having experienced a flood, I can say it’s horrible to see what water does.
I hope all the help promised actually materialises, Bearsy. Apparently this has not happened in Haiti.
Thanks for that link, Boadicea. Good to have a rational explanation!!
I believe the benefactors have serious doubts whether aid reaches the victims in Haiti.
I can understand that, Janus. But I suspect that there is also a desire by some countries to look good in the public eye, even if they have no intention of following through. Though I appreciate that this was not the case with the Pakistan floods.
