Don’t take my word for it – this is Michael Slater‘s verdict. Though I have to say I agree whole-heartedly with him.
When a team fails, the coach is for the chop! It’s tradition. Between them, these two gentlemen are the primary cause of the decline in Australian cricket. Sure, Punter and Pup have done their bit to guarantee defeat, but who decided Hauritz wouldn’t play – who kept Cameron White out of the side – sacked Andrew Symonds and ensured that Shane Warne would retire last year?
That’s right – these two crims! Find ’em a quiet spot in the top paddock, and forget ’em! 👿
“They told Bollinger not to play in a Shield game when he was declared fit, because they wanted to rest him, and then they left him out of the Gabba Test because they said he wasn’t match fit,”
Even the talk here was what a mess your selectors were making, no recognized spinner has to be the cricketing crime of the century, look what Swann has achieved this tour.
When it comes to selection I’d hate to think of the pressures that our lot are under, since the ‘retirement’ of Makhaya Ntini there are no Blacks good enough, however we can’t have a squad from the Rainbow Nation without a black player, the powers in Cape Town would have a fit.
Not sure if you’ve been watching our series with India but you’ll see the name Lonwabo Tsotsobe, he’s from my part of the world and a super chap, there are far better bowlers available but…
The only pressure on our selectors is financial (plus a modicum of old-boy-ism, nudge-nudge, wink-wink). 😦
