Poor Grammar – Letter to the Editor, the D.T.

Sir
You may like to pay more attention to editing the D.T. itself for poor grammar.
This morning’s front page carried the startling news headline,
“Husband flies to South Africa to help murder police.”
Surely someone should have stopped him before he boarded the plane?

CWJ travelled extensively with his family, having worked in eleven countries over thirty years. A keen photographer, holding a Private Pilot's Licence, he focuses mainly on landscape and aerial imagery. Having worked in the Middle East extensively he follows developments in that region with particular interest, and views with growing concern, the radicalisation flowing from Islamic fundamentalism, and the intolerance for opposing views, stemming from it.

  1. Excellent example but not unusual, frankly.

One expects this from the tabloid press but it is a shame the DT have lowered their standards.

  2. Just another example of the quality of education perpetrated by Labour’s instructions to the teaching fraternity and Examination Boards not to penalize poor grammar and spelling.
Presumably the DT attempts to find staff who do have some grasp of grammar and spelling…I think I may order the Hindustan Times – at least their writers are still taught proper English grammar!
