Perlemoen poacher surfaces

Perlemoen shell by Monika

This made my morning.

Our local newspaper reported this morning that a SANparks patrol boat spotted some night time activity off Bird Island (a restricted conservation area) and went to investigate.

You won’t believe what happened next

I almost wet myself laughing, here’s the start of the report from the E.P.Herald…

“A SUSPECTED perlemoen poacher surfaced in the dead of night and clambered by mistake onto a patrol boat – with his haul of shucked perlemoen.” (cont. here)

Ha ha ha, howabout the one that got away? A 15km swim, rather him than me!

  1. Very amusing, Souts, but in all seriousness, I have eaten abalone once in California but never again. It’s hugely expensive, which is why this sort of thing happens.

  2. Morning Ara, we used to dive in the rockpools around here as children and collect them, my father would then cook them on the braai, sadly haven’t been able to do so with my children as our coastline has been stripped of them.
