God is, obviously, an American

There was an event in Washington in August called ‘Restoring Honour.’ No idea what it was all about, but the organisers had planned a fly-past to start the event. The fly-past was banned on the grounds that the sky over Washington is a restricted airspace. And then this happened:

  1. It is reassuring to see that, despite the SDSR, the RAF can still put on a show for our allies.

  2. Unusual in August.
Ours will be coming in like that soon, arriving from the Arctic in skeins of hundreds/thousands to overwinter here and the next county South.
    Very beautiful.

  3. I attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington National Cemetary Washington this Tuesday past and at the precise moment when the wreath was handed over to the Honour Guard, four military jets in close formation passed over the tomb with three staying in formation and the fourth shooting skywards. So although it may be wrong to say that flypasts are banned, no one would begrudge the one I witnessed.

  4. OMG,

I did a blog about this ceremony that takes place at Arlington a couple of years ago on the old MyT.

I would be interested in reading that, I took some video so I’ll edit it down and try and post it on here. The whole thing was very moving and caused a bit of dust to enter my eyes. The Americans have so much respect for their Country, their Flag and their Military, it was a privilege to be present.

Thanks for that, being as The Arlington Cemetary is still very fresh in my mind I can imagine that it’s quite a sight to behold.
