Is this cool or what? I saw this today for the first time…
What do you see? Lots of camels right? Wrong! What you see are actually the shadows of camels!
Here’s the text that accompanied my version…
This is a picture taken from directly above these camels in the desert at sunset. It is considered to be one of the best pictures of the year. When you look closely, you can see that the camels are the little white lines in the picture. The black images you see are just the shadows!
🙂

Plato would have been proud.
Very cool.
Took me a moment to see what you meant but now I’ve got it I have to agree that it’s a stunning picture. This is so typical if the National Geographic, I’ve just gone over to the iPad version of the magazine from hard copy, it’s fantastic on the iPad and is obviously much more interactive, it is the future of publishing but hey, this blog is about a great picture not my views on the iPad, that can be for another time.
OMG, I am waiting for Microsoft’s pad to come out. That will be the real thing.
Sipu
Much as I would like to debate we should not really barge into Soutie’s blog, another time maybe.
OMG I couldn’t care less, I rather enjoy it when blogs take a mind of their own and veer off in different directions. Janus’ pic of Prince Charles at the commonwealth games veered off into a history lesson of the Welsh Principality, I enjoyed that!
😉
Perhaps I’ll re-title this post ‘Would this pic have more impact if I owned an iPad’ 🙂
Soutie
You are on form!
Kwalitah!
Nice one Soutie, even if I don’t have an I-pad. 🙂
Stunning pic Soutie. Just to fix a possible misunderstanding; the pic is not taken in Turkey. We don’t have desert here and I don’t think that many camels. Shame I don’t have an ipad though. 😐
Hello, Levent! Nice to see you again.
Hello Janus. Thank you. I am a devote fan of your witty posts. 🙂
Well, er….. (blush) than you! 🙂
A neat illustration of the problems faced by Aerial Imagery interpreters 🙂
PS. And a great photo – stunning pic, Soutie.
Stunning.
And they say that irony is a British characteristic!
🙂
I wonder what Plato would have thought 😉
Don’t really have anything to add – just wanted to see how many ‘quotes’we could nest 🙂
Howzit Bravo, the thought had crossed my mind 🙂
brilliant shot, Val you had better get practising to beat this 😉
