Recently, I have twice seen examples of the same person confusing these two pairs of words. In a spirit of kindness I should like to point out to the person concerned, the error of their ways.

Dear Bearsy
I have no wish to distress the person concerned by mentioning names. It was on a “definitely not this” site that I spotted the errors. For some reason, I felt impelled to mention it. I ought to feel better now that it is in the open.
Re the perennial confusiion over its and it’s, I am currently reading a novel in which this misuse occurs a couple of times. (Cheap novel).
Reticent and reluctant too.
“There, their and they’re” are at the top of my list of most annoying errors. 🙂
Your and you’re also spring to mind. I suppose one reason for all this confusion is that the spoken word predominates over the written these days.
No one is taught any grammar.
Up with which I shall not put.
Quite right too (two/to), Pseu. 😀

If ya got it, flaunt it, but don’t flout it, folk may think your a big ‘ead.
‘less’ and ‘fewer.’
I hope it wasn’t me. If so, as an inadequate pedunt, I shall fall on my sward.
Disinterested and uninterested spring to mind when reading this thread.
Another error that annoys me is the confusion between “partake” and “take part”. There are so many horrors in modern newspapers and magazines that I wonder if there are any educated proofreaders and editors left.
And….what about the death of prepositions? Battling disease, protesting government decisions…..
