Creative Writing Competition – October

I could be wrong, but I personally believe that we need to get the Boadicea’s Chariot Creative Writing Competition on to a more regular and balanced footing. To explain, I am a Libran and it’s what we do.

So, what about the last day of the next month for the next deadline?  Works for me and we will have absolutely none of this nonsense that some idiot on this site keeps dragging up  about BST v GMT.

Midnight in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on Sunday 31st October 2010 for the deadline.

For the theme, the next day, November 1st  is,  reputedly,  the day on which one of  William Shakespeare’s last plays, ‘The Tempest’ was first performed in 1611.

So, less than 2,000 words, any format. No words to incorporate but your entry has to be inspired  by one of the more memorable quotes from said play:-

‘O brave new world! That has such people in it!’

  1. The date works fine for me, John.

Interesting theme; I’m thinking Huxley here. Dark and cynical; just the job.

Could be just the opposite of course; Monty Mouse is ever the optimist. 😉

  2. Thanks, John. It was a little out of control, imo; better a collected canter than a gallop for this sort of exercise. The date’s good and the theme is very interesting, but will follow Nym’s “Crikey” with a “Blimey!”.

  3. Possibly a bit of a long time – still probably not a bad idea to move it and keep it to the last day of the month and who knows – even I might manage something!

  4. Not like you to slow things down, JM, eh? Got an armistice date for Tortoise Wars I yet? 🙂 (Phworrhh! Helen Mirren. “Prospera never cheats” maybe)

  5. Hello,Mr Mackie –
    “I am a Libran ”

So am I! Perhaps there is something in this horoscope nonsense after all.

  6. Yoo hoo, OMG. Write your story and post it normally, but remember to leave a link to it here too as I did.

  7. OMG – Just stop faffing around, write the thing and don’t give me cause to come over there! I, for one, will look forward to reading it as I am sure will the blogger previously known as Admiral Embra. 🙂

  8. Thanks for the flattery, Oz!
“O brave new world! That has such wolves in it” –

I’m trying to become inspired, Oz, but it aint workin’ at the mo.

I have something to get through on Thursday and then maybe my mind will clear?

  9. “O brave new world! That has such wolves in it” is proper poetry and which, as any fule kno, is wot Bill from Stratford should have written in the first place.

Get through whatever on Thursday (I hope it’s minor), Pseu, then start scribbling.

    🙂

  10. Well here we are and I haven’t yet posted a story, though there is one nealry written on my netbook and I may yet get it onto the thread in time. For various reasons I can’t access it until later…
I have been awake since three thirty and have now had two more ideas for a story on the theme, but there’s no time to write them now!

  11. hi Boadicea, it doesn’t happen to me very often, though more frequently as I age, sadly.
Should be time to post the nearly completed story later, as long as nothing goes with the day.
